I don't cut as much as I use to and last night I kind of freaked my self out. Most of the time I don't cut myself to deep and I don't cut around any major veins or arteries so I never bled a lot so I would cut in the shower (don't have to worry about mess or someone walking in and the water can keep the wound bleeding if wanted) but last night, I'm thinking from the way my wrist moved when I pulled the blade across my skin, I put this gash like cut on my waist. The first thing I noticed was how much I was bleeding which scared me cause like I said before I have never cut that deep (the wound would probably bless for a min or two then dry up). Blood was running all the way down my leg so I got out of the shower grabbed some toilet paper and applied pressure and the bleeding stopped pretty quickly. That's all I really did for the night cause it just stopped bleeding it didn't have time to fully clot if that makes sense I didn't want to risk it bleeding a lot again if I cleaned it, and my cotton balls where in my room yet and toilet paper wouldn't work to well. That was at 11-12 last night. At 6:30 this morning I used some witch hazel on the wound and recovered the wound which I also did last night. I get home this morning from school at 2:30-3:00 and I used some more witch hazel on the wound along with hydrogen peroxide waited for that to dry and put some gauze on it. Being the next day I can see the wound a lot better now that its not bleeding and its deeper than what I normally cut at which explains the blood but because of how the blade was angled or something there's also a bigger gap in between the skin probably about the size of the 5th-6th string on a acoustic guitar at the biggest section.
Would it be able to heal naturally? And if it can't what can I do that doesn't require telling my parents or going to the doctor?

The most my mom will do is cry or say I'm ungrateful or something.
She doesn't like paying for help either. I have flat out told her that I felt mentally insane and that I wanted to talk to someone again. Trust me if this problem as a whole could be fixed just by telling my parents I would and I have tried to stop and have been doing decently at it with the exception of last night. I really just need to know if it could heal naturally even if it'll take a while. Like I said before I don't do it often aless I'm really upset or overwhelmed and even then I don't do it as much anymore.

If you got it to stop bleeding, you should be okay. You could invest in some steristrips to close the gap and aid the healing but you've essentially done all you can, outside of going to the doctor. Note though, that it will not heal pretty most likely and you need to make sure that you washed the wound out well to avoid infection. I don't know much about witch hazel but a quick google search suggests that it's a useful product. If you do decide to go to the doctor and get stitches, you only have 24 hours before they consider it more of a risk by closing it than by leaving it open (can trap infections inside). Take care and be careful hun. I would advise you also to return to not cutting in such 'accident' prone areas to avoid repeating this scenario.

As Teal said if it stopped bleeding you should be ok. It sounds like you're taking good care of it, but just keep an eye on it. Do you have a family doctor that you could talk to? If so, they likely wouldn't be able to tell your parents.... might be worth a hypothetical conversation to find out. Be safe, Jacq

It looks a lot better now. I just want it to heal somewhat normally is the thing. I could care less if it scars because I could put ointments on it once it starts to really heal to prevent or get rid of them to a degree. My family doctor should not have a medical degree. I was getting bit by bed bugs on and off for a year (my mom likes used furniture) and he didn't look at it at all and said it was nothing. My little brother has ADHD and each month he ask what meds he takes for it when we go and get a prescription.
The thing that worries me the most is the bit of a gap as I said. It's somewhat deep but obviously not too bad since it stopped bleeding quickly after apply pressure which I normally do to any cut and as I also said before the cut is on my waist so there's no major arteries or veins that I could accidentally cut. I don't do this often which is partially why this incident freaked me out so much. But thank you. ![]()

Light pressure cuts (scars) remain on my abdomen from 30 years ago. Although faded over time, the scars are still visible. Think about it and I hope the best for you.

I'm sorry you don't have much support by way of family or doctor. Would talking to someone at school be an option? They may have to inform your parents, but it may also get you some more help. My guidance counselor was my lifeline in school. It helped to have the support of someone while I had nothing at home.
As for the cut, it should heal, as everyone else has said. I'm not sure what you mean by "normally" but it should heal with some scarring. Careful with the cutting. While you won't likely hit any major blood vessels, you could do muscle damage with deeper cuts. Just something to think about... Good luck Hon. I hope you can find some meaningful real life support (not just online). |

Talked to the guidance consolers before and the most they can really do is talk to my parents but if my parents don't want to help then its useless then the most they can do is try to temporarily fix the problem. Cutting is not they only problem I have but anytime I talk about it I get shot down except here and a few of my friends who deal with the same "stuff" I do.

Kitcat,
I do not know your parents, so I can say with 100% assurance - but I believe that any parent would love their child so much that they would be honored to help you (or get you help). Will they be worried and sad? Probably. But they will also be happy that you could trust them enough to ask for help. Gods blessings to you. |
