It's so relieving. Why do people say it's not good, have these people ever experienced it?

I forget why we try not to do it. Why we control the need to see blood to feel physical pain. To scar oneself.

And then when I'm inching towards slicing the dangerous spot, the one spot I control myself from I suddenly remember. It's an addiction, an unhealthy addiction that can cause eternal damage if one goes to far.

But suddenly I don't care. I don't care if I go there. I don't care if it causes worse damage. I just want to feel the energy of the cut, the blood flow out. I want to feel. Something. Anything.

I get that similar feeling too, but I think you should put a trigger warning on this post, it's triggering to me and can be for others.

Sorry guys I didn't realize how triggering the post is.
I don't think I can edit the title or what to add a trigger warning.

I can totally relate to this post. It's like the conversation that goes through my head quite often.

Hi Folks! Another way to get a trigger icon added is to "report" the post using this icon...feel at the bottom left. It's just another way to get the attention of the Community Support Team and probably faster. too!!

Hugs to all

Glad a trigger warning was put on this. Before you post, just makes sure to read over everything and remember your audience.

TRIGGER

I remember so well feeling that way when used to punch brick walls until my knuckles looked like raw hamburger. My fingers are still stiff today, thirty years later. I used to open heavy steel fire doors by smashing them open with my forehead. Lots of self pounding.

I remember a girl begging me to stop. When I asked her why, she said she couldn't stand to see anyone hurting themselves like that. I told her truthfully it was about the only way I could feel something. And feeling something was better feeling nothing.

I don't do that any more. Now it is more subtle, like neglecting my gum disease and my diabetes. Still not taking care of my self.

If you need to feel something, anything, does it necessarily have to be done in a negative way? Just a thought...I used to think that the only relief out there came from SI but i got into working with animals and felt much better without such a level of introspection. Joy can be just as relieving and furry friends are known for rousing more positive emotions. What would make you feel joyful even if it's just temporarily?

Self harm doesn't work - the fact that we keep doing it proves that much. You're entitled to do whatever you want with your life and your body, but i just hope you find something more reliable.
