i cut for about 12 years (from age 16) and it had gotten severe by the time I stopped. I went a little over 5 years without cutting at all. Over the past year I have gotten back into cutting as badly as before, deep enough for stitches each time. Has anyone else relapsed after this long? It's much harder to quit this time. I feel like an idiot. I felt so embarrassed to get stitches at 33.

It had been like 18 years since I'd last cut before I cut about a month ago. So you're not alone... And I'm 38

I cut again last night. At least 2 were stitches deep. I don't even want to tell my therapist because she must be so sick of this.

it's her job to help, i'm sure that she's far from sick of anything.

Yes. I had gone for 4 years without cutting, until 2 nights ago. I had had a horrible day. Everything was closing in on me, I was in a horrible amount of pain (on the inside), I couldn't eat, and couldn't sleep. Around 2 a.m., I looked down at myself, saw I had gotten something out of my purse. I had fresh cuts on both arms and both legs.
Surprisingly, I felt 10000% better! No more pains, my heartbeat was back to normal, I was starving, and I was sleepy. I ate something and fell right to sleep.

Don't have a long history of cutting.......but the practice was very cathartic and urgent.....went several months.......cut again a couple of weeks ago.....but haven't again since........but it's very hard...I want to....feel the need to....

Hugs to everyone.........be gentle with yourself....and honest with your docs......

I don't cut, never have, but I recall as a teenager I was tempted to take a belt to myself (did, a couple of times) and lately I'm right back there again after all these decades.
Anyway, whatever.

I went for the past six months without cutting. But on Monday I did cut due to a 3 day anxiety attack. The next day i regretted doing it.

Yeah I was basically off of it for a good 8 years then got seriously injured and the cutting returned full force.

I don't like to use the word "relapse" as in my mind that implies that you go from SIing regularly, to a long time not, to an amount of time SIing regularly. I don't SI regularly. I did the day before yesterday, after 7,5 week without. Before that it was a couple of months.

I went years without cutting, then started again after dealing with things in therapy. I feel like I'm constantly apologizing to my T for acting like an emo teenager, because it's so embarrassing to be doing this at 30. Oh well.

I'm 38, so I understand the feeling. Cut for first time in about 18 years a few months ago, then again about a month after that.
