Okay so I'm in BC Canada anf I know some things are different from country to country. But I was wondering if you've ever contacted a crisis line or team about SH what happened? How bad was urges or the injury? Do they call EMS or admit you to Psych?
I don't want to be too graphic as can cause trigger but I feel I HAVE to cut and cut badly. But I don't want to get EMS called or admitted into the psych ward for that. Thanks everyone |

I've done it plenty of times. They just listen to you and help you make a plan to keep safe.

I volunteer on a crisis line in ON. We don't call EMS unless there's a high risk of suicide. For someone si'ing, we talk with them, try to get them to stop for now, and help them make a plan to stay safe. Mobile Crisis teams are a bit different, and generally for more serious issues. Not sure how they'd react.

When I contacted the crisis team it was mainly advice on how to stay safe and to reduce the frequency of the harm. Where I am the crisis team is an alternative to admission rather than an automatic route to going to hospital.

Very rare to be admitted unless you make a suicide attempt or plan on doing it immediately, have the means, etc. i have taken an overdose, been given activated charcoal, medically monitored, and sent home. They won't admit you for SH unless it's like seriously bad.

I don't know how to quote posts but I think that things are different in different places. I was admitted once for self harm but there were close calls other times. I went to the ER when I was 18 and the social worker said he was going to admit me until he talked to my dad. I've only gone to one hospital that didn't think about hospitalizing me for self harm and just sent me home (this was also the worst incident I had).
But, in regards to your question, I don't think the crisis line is very likely to call anyone. I think if you are an extreme danger to yourself such as attempting while talking to them they would call. I think that you would be safe to call them and see if they can help you. Their goal is to try and talk you through the urges so that you don't feel as big of an urge to harm yourself. I've called the crisis line a few times and never had them call someone. |

I think either way I'm going to have to call.
I know if I do it it's going to be bad. Very bad. I'm scared. |

Crisis lines are a big NO NO for me. 3 times In the last year they have brought te police to my home, broken my door, upset my bosses and taken me to be locked up. Last time I ran away and was on the run for 2 days. I was NOT a suicide risk, they did not listen to me. And they have no idea about intrusive thoughts or idealation. They just call the cops and lock you up. I used to be a big advocate for crisis lines but now realise they do far more damage than good if you are mentally ill. If your just having a bad day they are fine.
