I always hear about people that have had bad experiences from doctors or ER when they go into get treated for SI.

I have never had a bad experience. IN ERs I have had long waits (as expected) but nobody was ever hurtful. And I have been there alot.

I gave up the ER thing a couple years ago, and what I normally try to do is make a relationship with an urgent care practice or a family doctor practice and go there all the time. My last doctor was so helpful, I even made sure it was ok I came back when (sigh) this happens again.

Have any of you had terrible experiences? Or is this just a rumor.

I'm an administrator on another board that is specificaly for support around si. And I'd say from poster's postings that it's 50/50 good vs bad experiences in the ER.

Yeah.. they dumped me into the ward for ten days even though I wasn't even remotely suicidal. If they tell you they want to keep you overnight for observation, they're lying. You won't get out for a week.

The one time my daughter agreed to be brought in for stitches, I too wanted to avoid the ER or even the urgent care, so I called a plastic surgeon and she was (surprisingly) able to be fit in within a few hours with the plastic surgery Physician Assistant. He and especially the medical assistant were so, so kind. And he did a beautiful job stitching her up.

But, he did counsel her some about please using other coping mechanisms (and it was clear he didn't really understand cutting but was trying to be helpful), so if she does it again, I actually will be reluctant to bring her back there because she assured him she wouldn't do it again.
