I've considered moving to another location. Prices are good in FL, NC, even out West. The thing is, I have a kind of "network" here. One of the things I read is that senior retirees make the mistake of moving where they know no-one. I am safe and secure here, but I hate the thought that I can't be adventurous. Has anyone else her considered this?

I've done it a few times, but not yet at this age. However, I don't know anyone in my location. I only have one friend who travels 3 hours each way by train to visit and help me with basic stuff. But if you are a more adventurous type, seeker, you should consider going where it's easier to live. I would if I could!

I did, and just let me say: Don't get discouraged if it's hard to develop a new network. I've been here two years and am shy, so far have only made two good friends. I do keep going to activities I enjoy so I don't get isolated. Hoping a friend or two comes from that.

Seeker, there are times I think of picking up and moving, but it's usually when things are not going well in my life. The reality is that I'd be scared spitless to pick up and move to somewhere that I did not know anyone else. Some people say they "put down roots" somewhere. I tend to put down taproots (long and very deep). I am a homebody to keeps to herself most of the time. I have a good support system where I am. I'd be afraid if I picked up and moved away I would end up alone and isolated with no support.

By the way, prices are not all that low in Florida, especially in the cities.

What about thinking of another way of being adventurous? What about traveling? What about learning to do something new?

I have three very dear friends with whom I've cultivated a lasting relationship over the years. I doubt I could find such in a new location. I, too, tend to be a homebody who keeps to herself most of the time. I've also had to acknowledge to myself lately that I have the condition of social anxiety, particularly when it comes to my art. I much prefer selling my art online rather than getting out and interacting with the public. I've done it, in shows and in galleries, and even joining arts groups, but I suffer when I'm in those venues.
I think I should start small, taking some short "day" trips. That is manageable.
Thanks, all of you, for your feedback!

Seeker, have er heard of Road Scholar? It used to be called ElderHostel. It's a travel program though AARP. The trips are educational as well as travel. They have some short program that might interest you. The folks who take the trips are open, friendly folks. Maybe that would help with your social anxiety.

Here's the website:

OH, YES!!!!, Liz. I've studied their programs/adventures many times. I will go there and find an adventure. I really like that the travel they offer is not just "fluff," but educational. Right up my alley!
