I am having a constant urge / need to expose myself masturbating on my webcam for others to see and chat . I always end up feeling bad and guilty about it afterwards

I am hoping that someone has me some helpful advice - or suggestions on how to overcome this

Well... perhaps the first thing to do (as well as the most direct approach) is to get rid of the webcam... whatever device it is you're using. If you don't have access to a devise that allows you to be on the web masturbating then it can't happen. That doesn't mean the urge will go away. In fact for a time it may even get stronger. But at least you won't have the capacity to video yourself.

My personal opinion is that divesting yourself of the capacity to do what you're doing may be a necessary first step... painful as it may be. Otherwise it's like an alcoholic trying to quit drinking while still having a cabinet full of liquor. Then you have to deal with what drove you to want to do what you're doing to begin with as well as with how to handle the urges you continue to feel. And that, I presume, becomes a matter of therapy & perhaps some variety of support group or program.

Here are links to 7 articles, from Psych Central's archives, that (hopefully) may be of some help. These articles aren't going to address your specific situation exactly. But (again... hopefully) they will be sufficiently relevant to be beneficial. The last link is to a listing of addiction-related resources:

The Power of Porn: Attention, Hyperfocus and Dissociation | The Impact of Sex Addiction

Porn-Proofing Your Life to Avoid Sex Addiction Relapse | The Impact of Sex Addiction

Thanks Skeezyks,
I have disposed of my webcam, only to find myself using my laptop- though it is not as user friendly.
I am still using it - but find it more restrictive. So I am hoping it will take out some fun.
Being over 50 makes me just wondering why I have developed this habit - and at times feel very ashamed of myself.
As you rightly said I need to look at it as a addiction.
Thanks for your kind advice

Thank you bizi,
Have been disabling cam - but it is very easy to turn it back on and I find myself often turn it back on.
I been thinking of getting some one else to but on a parental look on it !!! I have just not found the courage to ask anyone, as I am really ashamed of myself.
What are those things you have listed on the end of your post?

Well, first make sure they are not under age. Ask up front and if there is any sign they are... end transmission.

But I don't think you should be ashamed. Be safe.. I always ask if the person on the other end is age appropriate but what goes on with two consenting adults in the privacy of their webcam is nothing to be ashamed of.

Might it just be a phase? I went though a phase myself similar to this. But eventually I got sick of it. I think one thing that really killed it for me was not knowing who was on the other end and thinking it could be someone I would know who I wouldn't want to see anything. (like maybe a relative) that kind of kills it.

At first it is really Titillating.

And btw from my experience most of the males on cams are above 40.

Ah... okay... over 50. Over 50 is when the wheels began to come off of my carriage... so to speak. In my case I had managed to keep my head above water, as the saying goes, until around the age of 50 when a not all that serious bout with cancer became the straw that broke the camel's back. So while my issues have been different from yours, I'm certainly acquainted with the kinds of struggles that can develop around middle age. Here are links to 3 articles that address the issue of the male mid-life crisis:

The Male Midlife Crisis

The Mid-Life Crisis: An Opportunity in Disguise?

When Men Feel Trapped: A Practical Guide

Thanks Emily,
I am very aware of not getting involved with any one underage !! It is very important to me to not offend anyone and not to be unreasonable.
As you said rightfully it does worry me is someone recognised me - how embarrassing !!
Thanks so much for your imput

Camer,
Could you make sure your face is covered? Wear a mask that way you would not be recognized.
