Your concern is understandable. You did not mention whether this is an internist or a gynocologist. Surely, there are female doctors you could go to. However, I can tell you that I have a friend who is a gynocologist and he has seen so many female private parts that he is not the least bit a problem with it. I don't really think you should worry about it. I would not hesitate to go to a female doctor with my male problems but everyone is different. Best wishes.

My general physician is a woman and since I don't have any gynecological problems, she does my yearly exam. Can you find a female doctor? Did this lump come suddenly, is it on the external area and does it hurt - wondering if this could a easily remedied skin problem. Your health is very important and I agree all doctors just look at the private area as any other part - they become so desensitized ...they're not thrilled to be looking anymore.

I hope this ends up being a treatable problem and please make a doctors appt -with a female or your regular doctor. Lets us know what he/she says - good luck.

Abuse, either as children or adults, has a way of sticking with us, doesn't it? But, it seems to me that you should try to put your physical issue ahead of your fear at this time. Who knows what a delay may bring. This may be something that you want to get solved very soon. Good luck.

Blondboy and Lynn bring up great points. I do hope you take them under consideration.

I know it must be hard trusting a male doctor with something so intimate after what you went through as a child, but Lynn is absolutely right in saying that doctors become rather desensitized to that sort of thing. They aren't looking at you in anything more than a medical light.

I hope you get a good diagnosis. I will say a prayer for you.
