My sex drive is gone. completely. its the zyprexa. i know it. Is there something my dr can give me to counteract it? i know most antipsychotics do this to me and i HAVE to be on one. I'm female btw. i usually have a very high sex drive so..... this is a big change. its so far gone that seeing nudity freaks me out. i have a boyfriend and i don't want to displease him. he says he doesn't care whether i sleep with him or not and he loves me but i know he would be happier if i'd sleep with him.... i'll still snuggle him (its not that far gone)

Going through the same thing on effexor. I'll check back and see if it's the meds or what.

I was fine on Zyprexa in that regard. Risperdal killed my sexuality 120%. Geodon killed it 99% (a couple of erotic dreams over a couple of years being the other 1%).
I also had it on Topamax, which is NOT an AP. I think it means that you should not generalize to ALL AP's. Which ones have you not tried? You can try old AP's combined with cogentin or propranalol as antidotes, to broden the range of options. |

Then it dawned on me that my relative happiness that followed a brief door encounter with a random man signaled, indirectly, that I was still heterosexual, as before. In other words, Topamax, in my experience, does not just kill the drive - it kills all fantasy life, completely removes the ability to generate natural lubrication, and just negates and cancels your whole existence as a sexual being. Somebody on here used to have unorgasmia on Topamax, but after 4-6 months she adjusted, partially, and now she is able to orgasm, but it takes her a long time. If you PM me, I will send you her userid so that you can search her posts - she has posted about Topamax several times. |

So you think the side effects might wear off eventually? thing is, i'm still having sexual dreams on occasion, i just am completely grossed out by it while awake...... that's a good sign right?

I'm sorry to say, sexual side effects don't usually wear off, and can, in fact, become permanent, even if you get off the drug(s), according to my reading. I am dealing with that myself. My pdoc gave me a med that is apparently for allergies, but I guess it's supposed to help me become horny when I want to...which isn't what I wanted. If I'm not aroused to start with, it's kind of hard to become motivated to get that way. I don't want more pills, but if I had to take a pill everyday (this one he gave me is just for when I want to get aroused) to feel normal (or moreso) everyday, I'd take it (barring dangerous or unpleasant side effects). The drug he prescribed--I get the generic, so I'm not sure what the brand-name is--is Cyproheptadine (4 mg). I haven't tried it yet, so I can't tell you if it works for me.

I'll ask my pdoc about it, i've switched meds because of lack of sex drive and gotten it back before so........ please don't try to scare me by saying it'll be permanent ._.

You can take some natural pills from the pharmacist . . . and they generally increase your drive for a while. Ask your psychiatrist though.
