Do any of you know how to make yourself have a lucid dream? There are some things I want to explore in my dream, but I need to know I'm dreaming in order to do so. How can I make myself have a lucid dream? Thanks!

I think you have to practice. I've read that you can tell/agree with yourself before you go to sleep that when you see a ________ you'll remind yourself that you are dreaming. It's sort of a self-hypnotic suggestion.
Since it's a dream and "yours" you can explore stuff when you wake, write what you'd like to know from the dream or imagine it going a different way, etc. The more you consciously work with dreams, the more your unconscious will help too, know you're "interested".

I usually think before I go to sleep which brings on the occasional lucid dream. You sould try it.

I have lucid dreams a lot. I usually get them if I wake up and go back to sleep. It's important to wake up for an hour or so and go back to sleep.
Then when you are in the dream, make sure to do reality checks. One of mine is to try to read text in my dream. If the words don't make sense then that is a sign that I am in a dream. Another way I become lucid is through false awakenings. Sometimes I dream that I wake up in bed but have trouble getting up. Usually I roll myself onto the floor in my dream and when I don't feel the impact of falling down to the floor, I immediately realize I am in a dream. Then I usually enter another dream and realize I am dreaming. Lucid dreams are really neat. I find I have some control over them. Usually I choose to fly or have sex in mine. LOL Once I was able to summon things in my dream. Sometimes I explore the dream, like open doors and stuff to find out what is on the other side. I really enjoy my lucid dreams. They are awesome.

Oh yeah, I really like my lucid dreams so I try to prolong mine when I feel like the dream is fading. Once I blinked several times in my lucid dream and yelled out, "lucidity increase!" and that made my dream clear again.
Another trick is to rub your hands together in your dream or spin around and around. I do the spinning thing a lot. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I think it helps.

I, too, enjoy lucid dreaming. Anytime something negative begins in a dream, to be able to tell myself, wait! it's only a dream, I want it to be xxx this way, is really beneficial. I also use it when I hear myself snoring while asleep of course rofl!!!
I don't find the need to wake fully unless I wish to write something down (if I've become magnificently wise in the dream for instance lol.) It takes practice to have good control. It also takes use. (You can't just learn to do it well and then stop honing the skill and expect to have it sharp at any bekon call.) The hypnotic suggestion is a good one. Telling yourself you want to dream lucidly helps. If you do have a particular event or item that you can use to trigger in the dream, that is great. You can also direct your dreaming by telling yourself "I want to dream about such and such ..." as you fall asleep. Pleasant dreams!

Your subconscious has complete control over you while you sleep. Lucidity is the point where your brain clicks in and takes over from the subconscious. Ultimately every dream finishes in some degree of lucidity. However staying lucid without waking up is very difficult. It is like swimming just below the surface without braking it! As people say on here, you are more likely to achieve lucidity if you wake up from a good nights sleep and try to go to sleep again. You dont go back to deep sleep and alternate between sleeping and day dreaming. However some sleeping positions aid lucid dreaming; If you try to go back to sleep on your back with your hands above and under your head, you likely to drift in and out of lucidity for some time. The hypnotic suggestion works in a different way. Your subconscious humours you with dreaming you are lucid dreaming! ![]() |

Why should you be frightened of your dreams? Be they good or bad, they are always trying to help you. When you know your dreams better, you will realise what most of your dreams are trying to do in your sleep. Firstly we all need a dream to wake us after every sleep. Dreams are the actual waking mechanisms, the natural alarm clocks of life. If you get into a bad sleeping position your dream will either move you or wake you up. If you have any pain or discomfort, dreams will help you to sleep and give you time to heal. If you need to wake up very quickly for some reason, the subconscious obliges with a nightmare that frightens you awake! If you are bored in sleep your dreams will entertain you! Dreams are your guardian angels. Forget about analysing your dreams. It is what they do in sleep that is important. The meanings relate only to your character and your experiences. |
