Several times I've been woken up by my dreams, and the worst experience I had was that in my dream I was drowning and sinking into a clear abyss, and I'm trying so hard not to breath the water in, and that's when I wake up, grasping for air! It's like in real life I wasn't breathing at all, just like in my dream. And my eyes started to dart all around the room, and I noticed I had a sheen of sweat all over my body. To say the least, I was freaked out and a bit paranoid.

So what is your reaction when It wakes you up?

When I have dreams so frightening that I wake up from them, I am frightened.. as if I were still in the dream. After I come out of the disorientation, I feel relief and uneasiness because I'm wondering why I had that dream, or if I will dream it again when I fall asleep.

The only times my dreams wake me is when there's a physical sensation. Usually my reaction is WTF because I get sensations ranging from being hit in the face or shot to 'ahem' orgasm, so...

Thank you for posting. When I have those dreams and awake it feels as though I am right there and lost within that place. I have to try to orientate myself to where I am and sometimes it takes a while to know for sure.

I find myself having to get up and move around but still many times will fall back into that place like I never left it. I do gasp for air and find it hard to breath. Many times it is as if I have been running a marathon or something. It feels so real and like it wasn't a dream at all.

At times I will not go back to sleep because it felt so real and I do not want to dream again. Sometimes I scream out in my dreams and wonder if I have actually done so out loud. At times I awake with tears falling and scared. It is something that many times sticks with me all the next day.

Sending you gentle hugs and loving thoughts. Always.

Hi,
We're always woken up by a dream, however normally we rarely remember it. Like normally you ar'nt conscious of breathing or your heart beating, but when you run or do something exciting you notice your breathing and your heart beating fast.
What you describe is a dream caused by sleep apnea. If you sleep in a bad sleeping position, on your back breathing becomes difficult and sometimes you actually stop breathing and start again, gasping for air. It happens to many people but worse in people who are overweight. However it can happen to anybody.
It is not dangerous but if it happens often you should seek medical help.
