I don't have very many dreams at all but when I do they are usually about a tornado. Sometimes multiples and I've had this for years. What does it mean?

Can you give some more context? What else happens in the dream?

I can usually see it or them coming towards me and feeling an intense fear.its usually those large ones with elbows in them. I usually wake up before it actually gets to me but I wake up all stiff and tense with fear.

I've had a lot of tornado dreams too (more in the past), and they are usually terrifying. One association I have is to my mom's anger and temper tantrums when I was a kid (40 years ago).

I've had nothing like that. I don't remember very many dreams at all except this one. Strange

I have those recurring tornado dreams, too. I've read they may be a symbol of feeling like you have no control. That seems to be accurate for me. As for why they keep repeating, maybe there is something you can't express in your waking life, or some issue you're not addressing. However, the context is important because how you deal with each dream may show that you are making positive steps in your waking life.

I have had tornado dreams most of my life. For me, as a kid ,tornadoes were a real threat and the only thing the adults in my life ever showed any fear about. Which made me more terrified of them. I believe, for me the dreams were about fear. If I were going through a lot of anxiety I dreamed about tornadoes or someone chasing me.
The most interesting thing is that when I actually witnessed a small tornado form in Florida, the terror of them disappeared. The tornado wasn't everywhere and after me, it was a force of nature that I had no control over. Once I accepted that fact I have hardly ever dreamed of them again.

I just had a tornado dream the other night and they are reoccurring for me...in my dreams they are always in the distance or "miss" me...I always survive them. I told a friend of mine and she said that maybe the tornadoes represent something I am anxious about...I brought it up in therapy and my T didn't really have much to say about other than it could represent the stressors in my life right now but I am keeping myself safe...right now I am trying to find a better job and was waiting for the news on a 2nd interview I had (today just found out I didn't get the job, but if another position opens up I will be offered it)...so maybe it's stress, maybe it's just because they've been in the news so much lately...who knows

Good that you survive them. Good luck with your job hunt.

More dreams of multiple tornadoes. I also had one of being in a cemetery and all the head stones led along a spiral road, creepy and tree filled at the center was a tomb with my maiden name on it, it then evolved into me being chased by ??? And me climbing a series of hills trying to get away. Whats that all about?

The death of your old self. You left your old memories behind by over coming obsticals in your life. Tornadoes mean rapid changes going on around you. Whirlwind frenzies going on around you, in your life.

Dreams are really personal and one thing to one person can mean something totally different in someone else's dream. However, we do share many associations as we are all living on the same planet and in the same cultures and societies, and are biologically very similar to one another (same species) and deal with many of the same problems and experiences.

I imagine that most people would associate tornadoes with being a destructive force that we can't control, that is most probably what that represents. That doesn't really go very far in explaining the dream though, or finding the meaning. What specifically is the destructive force in your life which you can't control? Could it be a component of yourself? Some inner turmoil that you struggle to escape from? Only you can answer these questions.

It is very common for these 'fears' in dreams to be a component of yourself. Often the best thing we can do is confront our 'fears' in dreams, and try to embrace them with loving energy. It's important to try to accept them with loving energy because otherwise you are just feeding the fear by being afraid of it. Easier said than done I know! But once you are able to accept that part of your psyche and stop running away from it, you are able to see it for what it really is and make progress in dealing with the actual underlying issues which it represents. Only then will it stop recurring.

I think this is pretty much the essence of what dreams are and why they are so important. We need time for our subconscious to deal with this stuff and process information. Imagine how disorganised your house would become if you never took time to put things away and tidy up. It would just get worse and worse until it was not even functional any more. Same with the brain!

We experience dreams as weird stuff because the conscious mind has no way of interfacing with the subconscious in a way that the conscious mind can comprehend. That's why it is all so symbolic, it is just our conscious mind doing it's best job at interpreting what it is seeing in the subconscious.

Went off an a bit of a tangent here, sorry. Was fun to think about and try to articulate though :P I have a challenge for you, try to remember as much about one of these dreams as possible and try to write out at least some ideas of what you think it might mean. You might be surprised at how much you know and how much wisdom you come out with! It's all locked up there in your subconscious, you just got to let it out.

I've had tsunami dreams too. I'm usually in a distant place near the sea, often somewhere in Asia or a tropical climate.

A tornado is created of swirling wind/air. As such it is a symbol of consciousness and refers to powerful mental activity. The circling, spirally winds of the tornado reflect the idea of thoughts which are going round and round, as when going over and over an issue. Such thinking is often given power by anger which leads to carving out a physical path or course of action which is destructive rather than constructive. Note the strip of chaos and destruction remaining after a tornado has passed by. The tornado reflects a way of thinking which is a danger to the dreamer and anyone else in their vicinity.

The multiple tornados can simply be illustrating the increased range of subject areas that this angry thinking has come to cover. Multiple tornados also greatly increase the range of destructiveness it causes.

I agree with stupid. Can you make a decision in your dream, like plan the shelter and have some control?
