Question!
I have custody of grandsons, the youngest has reoccurring very violent nightmares on a regular basis. Everynight actually. What do I do? I always consol and talk with him. Unfortunatly when he was real young his father submitted him and his brother to horror.movies and he has neverforgotton them and recently he tells me he can see scary faces during the day too. Does this mean he is having hallucinations? Unfortunatley his older brother was diagnosed last week with schitzoeffective disorder n Aspergers. I do plan to get him seen soon. Just not sure if he should see his peditritian first or a mental health dr.

I think I would start with the pediatrician and go from there if he hasn't been seen before. I would not delay getting him seen. I would also just try to calm him as much as you can and let him know he is safe with you, which I know you probably are already doing. I wish you the best raising grand kids can be a tough one but worth it!

Dear grandma211964,

Bless you heart. You have a long journey ahead of you.
Yes GP first.
About the violent nightmares, there are some age appropriate remedies.
For kids there is a product called ghost/monster be gone in a can, which is perfume spray.
For older kids there are books you can read together to help get over fears and for you this will take a lot of patience. ect..
No,
Neglected/abused children can see and feel normal people as scary, because that was his reality.
Are you considering gaining custody of the older one?
I would start with GP, to rule out any physical problems first.
Lending you some strength to endure as things proceed.

Yes, we actually have custody of both boys, we are their legal guardians. When they both were with the parents (bouncing between them both)..one or multiple parents allowed horror movies for them to watch. It has caused the oldest to develop voices. ( he is now on a med that is helping). The youngest just hears one voice in his dream, however recently over the past week or so, he told me it talks to him during the day and has been for a year he said. (Mind this he is an honor student and such a little smarty) On Monday gonna call and get him in to see a dr. I have the oldest in a children's behavioral health center weekly and they now visit with him at school. I'm thinking about just calling and getting the youngest in there if I can without the referral..
Thank you for the strength, boy sure needed it.. this Grandma get plum worn out...but would't change it for anything though. They are both worth the effort.
Thank you for the advice on the spray..that might be worth a try..the boys are 8 and 7.
