I don't know what is wrong with me! I'm always more tired when I wake up than I was before I went to bed. I NEVER feel rested no matter how much sleep I get. Two hours after I awake my eyes are so heavy that I can hardly keep them open. I've got no energy to do anything no matter how badly I want and need to do things. I'm starting to wonder if its mental or physical but I can't even bring myself to go to the Dr!
Any ideas/opinions as to what this could be?

It does sound like you need to see a doctor to get this checked out
(I should maybe take my own advice)

This might sound strange, but your body might be getting TOO MUCH sleep. Instead of setting an alarm for say, 8 hours, set it for 7, or 6.

I hear a lot of people say you need an average of 8 hours etc. etc., but some people need more or less sleep than the average. I feel better from sleeping an hour less than what is considered 'normal', and it might be the case with you.

It has something to do with our natural sleep cycles. You may be interrupting your natural rhythm, so you need to experiment to find a time to wake up that doesn't interrupt your sleep cycle.

So sleep at the time you usually do, but set your alarm to go off an hour earlier. See what effects this has.

This is just one of many ways you can try to improve your sleep, so don't lose hope if this doesn't work!

Good luck.

Since night time is the only real time I have to myself without having to worry about anyone or anything else, I've tried going to bed later rather than earlier, sometimes only getting 3 or 4 hours sleep, and it DOES sometimes make me feel less tried during most of the day. Thanks for your advice! I've been waking up before my alarm lately and taking fewer and shorter naps (if any)

I feel you, I rarely get "refreshing sleep" and if I do I'm tired within an hour. This is the case whether I get 5,6,8 hours of sleep. It's very frustrating....my anxiety and depression had stabilized but the extreme fatigue has triggered a relapse. I don't have any abnormalities on blood work but have a sleep specialist consult pending in two weeks. best of luck to you

Geee! Thanks! Lol. Yep, you nailed it! Mid 40's! Now I feel old! :-) Is there any hope? Do you ever feel rested again after 40? I either can't sleep, or sleep too much. I rarely ever feel refreshed.

hmm, I think 3 or 4 hours sleep is not enough...
are you on computer in the evening long into the night? I realized it's important to turn it off ideally 2 hours before wanting to sleep, and to not look at anything too distracting before sleep

Another thing to look into would be environmental pollution or such? Can you air the room well? How is air outside and inside? Any new and/or odd-smelling furniture/carpeting/wood protection/air fresheners or such...? Things to consider... I sleep much better in another room than in the attic, and wake up way more refreshed too.

A third thing to consider could be nutrition maybe.

I feel so sorry for you! and you are not alone, I went and had a sleep study several years ago and the Dr. told me I have disturbed sleep, I wake up like 15 times a night, not that I even know it, all I know is I am exhausted and in pain all the time. The big suggestion was sleeping pills, which I didn't take for long. I kept getting up staggering and getting hurt. Anyway, best of luck

I was wondering how maybe I sleep too much? I am in my 50's and insomnia has been a close friend for sometime now. I thought this to be interesting comment.
Thx
