When you go to bed, how long do you lie there for?
I will give it an hour...pretty generous of me, I think....If I am particularly anxious, then I might only give it 45 minutes, but I don't watch the clock. |

Do you mean get up as in to start your day? Or to do something till sleepy again? Or to take sleep meds?
I tend to wait a ridiculous amount of time (about 3 hours) before conceding that I'm not going to sleep without the help of meds. (Psych: Why?! Why do you do that?! Me: Because I want to believe it'll happen! Lol.) It is exceedingly rare for me to get up hoping to get tired again, because that just doesn't happen. Neither do I get up to start day after the pre-sleep wait time, because then I'd really get no sleep(!) Which would be a very bad thing... |

I seldom get back up, or give up on the attempt even if I end up just laying there till the alarm goes off. I have been tracking my sleep hours with an app for awhile. Based on the previous nights sleep, my mood, and how tired I feel I will stay up waiting to feel tired and if it doesn't happen then I will take something to make me sleepy in time to get 4-5 hours before I need to be up. If I had little sleep the night before, I'll knock myself out earlier to get 5-6 hours. This is how I manage it now.
I used to just sleep when I could and stay up if I wasn't sleepy. Very bad results for me! |

an hour at most.
I can't just be lying their doing nothing- so if I can't sleep, i'd rather be doing something |

I'm with you but I thought an hour was a lot....three hours! I'm impressed. I feel like there's a window of opportunity that I will miss if I get up :-/ It's just so difficult to relax when all of the anxieties start a party.... |

I avoid the TV and the computer an hour before bed time.
