In the past month? I haven't been able to be any sleep. I tried shower at night. Watching a relaxing movie. A sleep mediation.

Dear Buffy01,
I am so sorry that is happening to you. That happened to me before and it was just awful. I was able to get relief when my physician prescribed Trazadone for me. I used to take Benadryl for insomnia but became concerned when some research studies linked anti-cholinergic medications like Benadryl to Alzheimer's Disease. I am not sure antihistamines like Benadryl were in the research study however. Trazadone is an antidepressant which is being studied as a medicine that might prevent Alzheimer's Disease I believe. Not being able to sleep is such a miserable experience. I sure hope you find something that helps you! Sincerely yours, Yao Wen |

I take my klonopin at night along with hydroxyine and it usually does the trick. However if I still can't sleep I will play a movie that I've seen many times on my phone and put the phone under my pillow by my ear. My brain gets distracted by the movie and I usually fall asleep within 15 minutes.

I tend to have trouble sleep around this time of year. Because of warmer weather. Also I don't like this time of year that much.

When I went through a horribly stressful time at a previous job with bullying included, there were times I didn't sleep for four nights. My husband saw how bad it was and convinced me to see a pdoc. He gave me leave from work and put me on low dose seroquel to help me sleep. Now I read that prescribing it for sleep is a bit controversial, but at the time I was ready to try anything. I couldn't function. The first nights I slept, but strangely, like my body was asleep but not my mind. Then I started to sleep better.
These days I alternate between insomnia and sleeping okay. I was laid off from that job when I came off my leave, which was for the best. We are in winter in the Southern Hemisphere and I sleep better. Lots of blankets and a mattress topper create a cozier environment. The summer heat here makes it all worse, for sure. |

I don’t know why I can’t sleep. Sometime I can sleep even if I take something to help me sleep like bendryl.

Oh @Buffy01! Sleep is the bane of my existence and always has been. My insomnia has been off the hook since I weaned off of an antipsychotic and enter menopause. I had a sleep study in May and finally followed up recently the doctor is prescribing me some new medication a CPAP machine even though I don’t have apnea and wants me to do a sleep course through the Cleveland clinic. I tried to sleep medicine the night before for the first time in absolutely nothing! Many people will say they have insomnia but I swear true insomniacs know what it’s like at 3 o’clock in the morning to realize there are three more hours before it’s daylight you’ve watched everything on TV and nothing is interesting. It’s a horrible place to be.

I haven't had a good night's sleep in months. Last night, against my better judgement, I took some OTC pain and sleep meds. That stuff isn't good for you, but I needed at least one night of sleep. I was worried that even that wouldn't work, because my brain just runs and runs it's negative cycle non stop. But it shut off long enough for about 7 hours. I feel refreshed this morning, though I think my anxiety is angry at me and is trying to claw it's way back. So far, so good. I'll take a few moments of respite where I can get them at this point.

Benadryl only helps me sleep if I take an ibuprofen or acetaminophen at the same time. The pain in my hip is manageable, but I guess it's enough to wake me up in the night. Last edited by Anonymous40506; Jul 28, 2021 at 09:11 AM. |

Now it's cooler here in the UK, am sleeping better.
However, "women of a certain age" can experience sleep problems. Reacted badly to herbal remedies, one of the ingredients didn't agree with me. Sometimes I wake once during the night, other times it can be three/four times. Lockdown added other delights, such as strange dreams! |

So far Seroquel is still helping me sleep, but that's not something I can recommend. I'm even planning to talk about that with my doctor. I've been having lucid dreams for 2 nights in a row now. I feel very tired due to that and sleep during the day, too.
I'm sorry, I don't really have any good suggestions because when I can't sleep, there's nothing I can do about it. I try to read because it tires my eyes. It works sometimes, but sometimes it does.
