Five weeks now since I've picked up a cigarette. I think I've got this and I'm feeling much better and saving a lot of money.

Sending encouragement to those of you seeking to quit, too.

Awesome stuff. I myself am near the 8 week mark, well maybe a form of quasi-abstinance bordering on the 8th week. What I mean is, I've have 6 in total within the earlier mentioned timeframe. My cessation tool was vaping and was wondering if anyone who reads this has used it as well. I'm curious as to what has happened inadvertently as a result of the switch. Please don't misconstrue this as a way to monopolize this sub-thread. Feel free to email me privately, I welcome whatever preference in correspondence. I'm new here so, if there is any, forgive my ignorance of proper etiquette.

Amazing progress, you should know that's one hell of a bodacious move. All envy aside, what's your stance on vaping? ... I'm considering it.. my struggle is all the propaganda. "I'm too stupid to make up my own mind" - Peter Griffin

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know, that I've been smoking for nearly 35 years and about 2 weeks ago, I decided that I was going to stop. I went to a vape shop in my area, and the first thing that I was told is, "You need to quit smoking!" So I tried vaping for a week, and all of a sudden, I ran out of cigarettes and decided not to buy anymore. I am now 1 week smoke free and vaping in place of smoking and it is helping me.

I want to be one of those people to let you all know, how much vaping helps people quit smoking, because it helps me. When I get a craving now for a cigarette, I vape instead and it really, really helps. I'm hoping to stay smoke free for the rest of my life. Eventually, I want to stop vaping too, to get totally off the nicotine.

It'll take time, but I know I can do it. If I can get this far being smoke free, then I can be smoke free for the rest of my life.

You're one step closer to not putting nicotine in your body! This is great news!!! Continue with your game plan of getting off it all and you will be so happy with your accomplishment. It takes good strategies and will power but I have confidence that you will be the better for your effort!

I quit for a year using the vape.
The thing is..the vape was NEVER out of my hand...but I was ok with that.

I started again because I drank alcohol...but if I were to stop again...I know that vaping has worked for me in the past...So best of luck to you as well.

Coffee was a trigger for me. The two went hand in hand! I had to be very careful with drinking coffee.

I have never had an issue with coffee, because I don't like it. My issue was that everytime someone would tell me, "You need to quit smoking!" That made me smoke even more, until I got someone, who asked me about it in a nice way. That was my new physician. She believes that saying, "You need to quit smoking!" isn't going to help the individual if they won't quit.

I have trouble with how people say things to me and that's part of my bipolar I, and I've been like that ever since I was young. The crazy thing is that I didn't even know I had bipolar I until about 8 1/2 years ago, when I was in the mental hospital at that time. Now I know, and if I can overcome being in the hospital for bipolar I, then I know I can do anything if I set my mind to it.

I've even learned how to write poetry, since then, and I have written a book. Maybe I'll write a book on smoking one day, until then, I'm just going to keep doing what I am doing with the vaping, until I'm ready to totally stop the nicotine habit.

It will be 3 weeks, tomorrow, since I quit smoking and I feel that I'm doing really well with it. Vaping is the only thing that has been helping me along with all the support I've been getting along the way.

You all are doing very well with the help and support, so please keep it up. Great job, everyone!!!

It has now officially been 1 month since I stopped smoking. I've been vaping to curb the cravings from the cigarettes and it really works. I'm so glad I stopped smoking now. I was scared at first, but I did it and I feel good about myself for quitting one of the hardest habits in the world. Yay!!!!

That's wonderful! I'm temporarily in a nursing home and I'm hoping to get little vaping kits for at least 2 of the smokers who have the worst coughs. I'm a vaper since more than two years ago and I was thrilled to quit smoking too! But here I have to vape outside with the smokers and I get headaches now from the smoke, but I don't harangue any of the smokers about it because I have been there. Good luck staying quit and don't be stressed out if you fall off the wagon. Remind yourself that it's not the ones you smoke, but the ones you haven't that are what's great now.

Thank you so much for replying to my thread. I plan to decrease the nicotine from vaping every month until I don't need it anymore.

I wish you wonderful luck with that! When I accidentally quit smoking haha, or it seemed that way, I forgot all about decreasing the nicotine and just focused on finding decent nicotine juice. Like 24 mg for everyday, or just a bad day when I'm craving the vape to deal with an awful day. Every day I had a smoke urge, I would vape a high nicotine juice. But the past 6 months I couldn't vape for the first 3 months and I was craving not cigarettes, but my vaping gear! My possible urge to smoke is gone now forever, I hope. Sorry for being so wordy!

You know, everyone is different, and for me, for smoking for nearly 35 years, I have to decrease my nicotine gradually, because first of all, this works for me. I plan to totally be off of nicotine within the next 2 months. I started vaping at 6mg, and 1 month later, I'm at 3mg. I plan to go down to 0mg next month and hopefully, by that time, I will totally be ready to quit everything.

Thank you for the good luck wishes, and you please continue your strategy and I wish you good luck, too.

That's how I feel now. Although, now they are coming out saying that it's not the nicotine that is the health risk and vaping is taking center stage in this new era. Not that we as a society really need a new generation hooked on it, but for those of us that have been, I for one am one of those that started as a teen, and have been on and off since then. The last time that I quit was for pregnancy and one day back in '11 I had a craving that I couldn't explain and voila. I also signed up for an app that tracks my days. 34 days now. Sure, I'm vaping, but because of the nicotine, I'm also not reaching for food. I've that hand to mouth or when driving that's where I want something the most. I was going out to my porch for a while. Keeping with the habit behavior. It feels good to be off cigarettes on several levels. I initially picked a date to be supportive of my friend as I've been back and forth about quitting for a while. So, I can relate to quitting by accident.
I had had my ecig setup since 2014 when I moved here. So switching wasn't too much of an investment. I did replace 1 battery, but maintain and rotate three batteries. My friend just moved over to the liquid fills and finds that a better solution. Ideally, I'd like to not spend any time or money on the stuff, at all. Baby steps.

Yes, accidental and miraculous! I never would have thought you would be a smoker, though!

Surprisingly enough, not just a social smoker, either. About a pack a day.
I feel that way, about most of the smokers I've gotten to know through the years. That I wouldn't have thought they were. That's one aspect to miss, however, its a social experience. The escaping to outside moments..
Thanks for this!
