Accepting yourself as if you were your own child, then encouraging yourself to do the best you can and praising yourself for your efforts regarless of the outcome.

Tomi, I couldn't have said it better. It's being able to look in the mirror and love who you see even though you know there are flaws. It's accepting yourself as a good person who's not perfect.

Can you do that, thought, when you only have the barest of semblances to self-esteem? I couldn't until I listened to my inner voice that told I didn't deserve the crap I was being handed.

Exactly! Expecting perfection from yourself isn't only unreal, it's a burden that won't lift.

You won't find self-esteem until you learn to accept yourself such as you are. It's a l-o-o-o-n-g processes.

Make that "mirror" just a symbol. I don't like what I see when I look in a real mirror because the face looking back at me is too dark from being out in the sun too long, it's too fat and it has scars. It's the "mirror" that you look into with your soul. The lady I see in THAT mirror isn't half bad although there's still a lot of rough edges to polish. Hmm... What is Self-Esteem?

Umm... ok, thanks just looking in the mirror; I see someone who can achieve in life, but doesn't have the energy to even try anymore.

If you suffer from depression, then it's no wonder. First thing to do is get it under control. There's no reason why you can't live a full life and do anything you set your mind to doing. Hmm... What is Self-Esteem?

Sounds like you already have a lot of self-esteem! You know you can achieve great things. Hmm... What is Self-Esteem? It's your energy and mental illness that is holding you down right now. There IS hope! Don't give up! Hmm... What is Self-Esteem?
