There are plenty pairs of jeans in my closet, but not one pair fit me. So I decided to buy a pair that fits. I am down to one very threadbare pair of track type pants which arn't even full length. That is all that is left that fits me.

I took a great big gulp and took 3 different styles of the same size to the changing room.

I tried on all three. They didn't fit. Not even close. I looked at myself in that mirror and just burst into hysterical laughter. And I couldn't stop laughing at how hideous I look. Even the changing room attendant asked if I was ok!

I abandoned the jeans. Trusty old threadbare will have to do!

I hope you can go back and not look at the sizes, but try on several and find at least one new pair that makes you rook MAValus!

Aw man, Sabrina - I know how you feel. I went shopping on Saturday and you know what? To heck with sizes. We always look better in clothes that fit and that are designed to flatter what we have AT THE MOMENT.

Honestly? I think you'll feel better about yourself regardless of the "size" if you buy yourself a new outfit that compliments your figure right now. It's important to have something to wear that we feel great in. Please reconsider, and give it one more try... ?

(the other thing I do is shop at Goodwill or thrift stores when I am at a size I hope to shed. That way I'm not paying full-price for clothes that hopefully are only temporary for me. Although this past weekend, I admit that I splurged a bit)

I got a pair of nice black pants. They are just a tiny bit loose on the waist so at least I don't feel restricted. And I laughed even more when I realized that when I married my husband I was 8 sizes smaller than him and now I am only 1 size smaller! Hysterical

hey - at least you're smaller than he is! My waist is much smaller than my husband's, but when we go bike riding together, I am horrified about how I must look from behind, next to him!

Glad you found some pants that you like, Sabrina. Hysterical I was about 6 sizes smaller when I met my hubby. I've never really been a small person, though. Hysterical I'm about 5' 9" tall and wear a 16. I do what LMo said. I buy clothes that I look good in no matter what the size! Hysterical I'm sure your pants look fabulous.

Thanks MentalPollution.

Well, I am on my way out - it is hubby's birthday and we are having dinner with about 25 other people. That is an issue all on its own.

Anyway. I am wearing the pants and a top that I bought but tried on and thought no way! I really liked it so I tried it on again. I called hubby to have a look at my size * outfit. I trust his honesty (he is never nasty). He said "that doesn't look size *, it looks ok". My heart started dropping when he said "it looks nice, it looks good". Instead of saying, as I normally would that I look huge, I just thanked him.

I have really tried tonight. I did my nails (even saving the broken one). I have taken extra care on my make-up. I am wearing my always tied up hair loose and blow dried. I don't know how much of what I have done is for me, but I really wanted to pry a compliment out of my husband. Just make him feel proud, despite my size.

Anyway - the new clothes feel nice, but I still feel uncomfortable in my own skin. I guess that won't go away anytime soon.

I will walk with my shoulders back, my head high, and I will try to be proud of who I am, even if it is just for tonight.

Thanks to all of you, for your support.

Sabrina - some people just aren't comfortable giving compliments. My ex-husband was like that -- couldn't give me a compliment if his life depended on it. I never heard the words "pretty" or "beautiful" or "I'm proud of you", and I looked a hell of a lot better than I do now. Conversely, my (new) husband says those things all the time, and he says them with sincerity. I think it has less to do with you/us than it has to do with him/them.

Your font is beautiful and very svelte, by the way... Hysterical

Hey, I don't go swimming because I can't stand to buy a swim suit. So, I can relate. Part of it is the price and the displeasure of being seen in such a revealing thing.
Have fun at the dinner. You probably look better than you realize.
