to learn to love yourself, when you've hated yourself for most of your life. Mostly because you can't seem to do anything right and you're constantly helping others but you get walked all over. How do you feel happy again?

Hey, appreciate yourself for the little thing in life you accomplish! Start with the little things!
Be happy that you are helping others that is something to be proud of!
Treat yourself well, have fun with life, dont worry about your mistakes, who doesnt do mistakes? Learn from them and move on! What is the best way...

Take care!

Hello I hope things get better for you soon. The main thing you want to work on is getting the professional help you need to get you started in the therapy you need. You may be suffering with depression or another mental health disorder and the right mental health treatment can do wonders in how you react to your self esteem issues, and help to retrain negative thinking. Trying to look at youself in a more positive light is important as well, journaling has helped many people to see for themselves how important they are not only to themselves but to society as well, since you do so much to help others. That alone should be very gratifying to you, and make you feel good about yourself. I hope the best for you and your future. Take care Soidhonia

Hi Niky -- I agree with Sidhonia (maybe I spelled that wrong, sorry). I was thinking this morning about how many different therapists and psychiatrists I've had over the years. It can be such a wonderful experience in self-growth if you pick the right one. Please take good care of yourself.

I started working on the thoughts/behaviors for when I put myself down. I decided to support myself and when I caught myself saying mean things about myself I'd yell "Support!" in my head and picture 3 guys in Roman togas running from one side (left to right) into the dome of my head and erecting a Corinthian column (no simple Doric or even Ionic!) and then running out (somewhere around the other ear :-) and it would make me smile and I'd enjoy my "creativity" and joke on myself. Since I enjoyed the image/joke I'd created, I got better at catching myself AND I started to mind it less when I said mean things about myself because I knew I had the 3 guys to "defend" me. Not being so unhappy with myself and feeling good about the successful/helpful image, I created other "jokes" and/or started enjoying my mistakes themselves and laughing at myself! Now I'm good friends with me :-)

Baby steps imo.

Try to pick out those things that you do 'right' without argument... really, even the silliest type things will help you begin the habit.

Don't you brush your teeth acceptably? Comb your hair? Fluff your pillow? Write legibly? Talk audibly on the phone?

Many ppl think they do NOTHING right (and thus have no reason to be loved...) but in reality, we all do hundreds of things right!

When did you grow into such wisdom, Sky?

Have you been making any progress, Niky?

My mother says by osmosis What is the best way... but really, knowing and working with my T all these years has made me a much better person.
Thanks.

I always tended to think how they call outside of the box now.. but to gain a new perspective, not see everything as black and white and from my original viewpoint only... well, I think that can help everyone. What is the best way...

I might add, if not offending, that know that God loves you...and it isn't because of anything you (or I) have done, but because we are part of His creation. What is the best way... God does nothing wrong.
