I didn't sign up for the right pension plan option -- and the mistake is going to cost me $4K toward my retirement. The error is completely mine. If I were a punching bag, I'd hit myself. Grrrrrrrr.

There isn't an open period where you can change?

Perna -- It's a complicated situation. If I change on the basis of this temporary 1-year contract, one choice is best. If I am rehired, another choice is best -- completely different from the first choice. So I've really screwed myself! I am dealing with a state bureacracy, and policies and procedures are hard-line with no room for appeals.

Wants2fly,

I'm sorry this happened. How frustrating... but human; please be kind and forgiving to yourself instead if you are able to at this time.... Beating myself up over a costly mistake

Thank you, Echoes, for the support. I am feeling quite despondent and stupid. I don't mean to report on my mood as if taking a daily temperature, but depression is a lifetime problem, and find myself slipping a bit from a state of feeling "okay with life" to despondent, feeling not good enough, that I won't get the job, that everyone is smarter than I am, more accomplished, friendlier, on and on.

Isn't it funny how one good wallop can upset one's tenuous emotional balance to such a great extent?
