I came out to my parents last week, and it went horribly wrong. I can no longer talk to my boyfriend or any of my friends, and I'll be switching schools soon. What can I do for the next two years to remove depressive thoughts and stay optimistic? I'm teaching myself two languages and stocking up on books and art supplies. What else can I do? I planned on buying a calendar that, hopefully, could supply the next few years on it so I can count down until I'm completely free. Any other suggestions?

I am sorry it did not go well. I assume you mean coming out about being gay and are still at home for awhile. Maybe time and adjustment will make things better. Its a lot for you to deal with.

I'm really sorry you have to go through that dear! The coping mechanisms you're using now sound great. Are you interested in video games? They helped me out through my rough spots. I actually do also recommend reading. And journal! It's always good to journal and reflect on what went well and not so well in the day. It'll help put things into perspective and hopefully help you out some. Please stay safe and remember that you're wonderful just how you are! Just message me if you need anything dear!

If you're wanting to stay optimistic, keep a journal, write in it every night but only fill it with positive things. Every day write something different that you're grateful for, gratitude is one of the best ways to be happy. Write down all of the things that went right, any compliments you were offered. Anything and every good that happens to you should go in it.
What you'll probably notice as you read back over your journal is it get easier and easier to fill up as time goes by you'll be training yourself to look for the good in life. That's you're RAS at work. Keep at you'll be fine! |
