I've used facebook in the past, a few years ago, unflattering (or "goofy", according to my friends) photos of me were uploaded by multiple friends of mine. I wasn't trying to be funny, it was unintentional. Friends started laughint behind my back, I closed my facebook account soon after. I couldn't deal with the ridicule, I'm not the kind of person that likes being joked around about. I couldn't ask all my friends to take them down either, because that would only succeed in drawing more attention to the whole thing. Prior to that, I really liked the freedom of being able to connect with other people I knew from behind the safety of a computer screen. I think I did the right thing.

Ever since that happened though, I haven't used facebook. I have no plans on going back. That was 3 years ago.

I just had to get this off my chest I guess. I spent many sleepless nights because of it, I guess I'm over it, but I can't risk it happening again.

I can understand your being uncomfortable with Facebook after what you went through. I'm glad you are doing better now, but don't blame you for not wanting to try it again. I'm glad you felt you could vent here.

Thank you gayle. I don't really miss Facebook, but a lot of my friends find it hard to stay in touch with me

There's always email and phone. Though are these the same'friends' that poked fun at your photos?

I would suggest closing your Facebook account before any further damage is done to your self esteem me .it is the only way to protect yourself from people talking about you behind your back.

I closed it down three years ago, the whole thing has thankfully died down, nobody really remembers it except for a few friends. I'm glad I'm not on the site anymore.

You're not alone! I'm more of a "let's have lunch or talk on the phone" type of girl. 'Sides, FB just seemed utterly fake to me. Good for you! Cat

I don't miss FB at all, nothing better than a phone call and emails to stay in to touch

i think you did the right thing deleting your account. i've deleted my account in the past but went back on recently. i'm thinking of deleting my account again. it just isn't worth the time i feel i waste on it. unfortunately, it has become such a big part of how people interact it can be rather isolating without it.

I like FB to express myself and it keeps all of my pictured of my kids and thing I've done.

You could always block people or have to where nobody only your friends list can see...I'm pretty sure you can do that

Haven't used facebook in a while, but it didn't have any setting to prevent people from tagging me in their photos, the best thing I could do was manually remove tags and it wasn't good enough for me. My main issue was with photo tagging.
