I have had the long standing fear that I'm just a boring annoyance to my friend and that they only sit through conversations with me and don't actually care and would ditch me as soon as they could. I know this sounds bad but I often get jealous when I see them happy with other people due to these fears. I feel like it would be manipulative to ask if this was true cause it would force them to say they do care about me.
How do I overcome these fears and better my self esteem.

Hello NotDeadYet: Well, the mainstream answer to this is probably... therapy. These are some of the sorts of issues people deal with in therapy. My personal perspective is that one does not "overcome" these sorts of concerns. The way to handle them is to learn to accept them... with compassion. As the 11th century Tibetan Buddhist Machig Labdron said: "In other traditions demons are expelled externally. But in my tradition demons are accepted with compassion." There is a Buddhist practice called "compassionate abiding" that I employ. Here is a link to a nice description of the practice. May it be of benefit...
