I'm not sure if this will help, but I feel like by posting, you're trying to prompt a discussion, if not an outright solution. May I ask why you refuse?

I ask because I have a knee-jerk self-hatred sometimes, and I'm afraid that if I say I like myself, then people will think I'm narcissistic or self-centered. I also have to fight the feeling that I don't have anything to like about myself, which is untrue. Even that can be hard to admit, though.

That makes things worse for me, like when people tell me something positive it makes me feel I have guilt tripped them into saying something or tricked everyone in some way.
