I just wanted to share this thought with everyone. Sometimes I think I am a really bad person, but I have realized something. When I think of myself as a bad person, it becomes more difficult to act like the best person I can be. A sort of self fulfilling propechy, I suppose. Also, it reminded me of a Jewel quote from her song, Sensitive. It says something like, "I have this theory, that if we're told we're bad, then that's the only idea we'll ever have." That quote may not be exact, since I'm doing it from memory. But like I said, if you can't forgive yourself and think of yourself in a more positive light, it may become more difficult to be the person you want to be, or at the very least, it might be more difficult to have the drive to do all the good you can in the world, because your self hate is weighing you down. So, if you can let it go, and accept that even if you did bad in the past, you aren't that way anymore, you don't want to be, and you don't have to be, then you should let it go and accept the new improved you. Sometimes, we even hate ourselves for things we don't deserve to be hated for. Perhaps we should try to look at ourselves the same way we would look at a friend, in more understanding, love, and forgiveness than we give ourselves. If you really want to be a better person, and you are truly sorry for the past mistakes you have made, then maybe you already are a better person, if you'd only believe it, and let it be. And when you do, doing good deeds will be easier, because most of us are more motivated when we are feeling better about ourselves, and when we are in a better mood in general.

Ever heard of the "Law of Attraction"? It says - sort of - that you get what you expect.
If you only look at the bad things that's all you see.
When you start looking for good things you will be surprised at how many there are in your life currently and how many come into your life after that.

Thank you for making me think of the good things in my life!!!

i couldnt agree with you more but it is easier said than done.i am a self-confessed perfectionist so when i dont reach my high standards i genuinely do feel like a failure. its hard because i never feel "good enough", i always feel the need to push myself; often to breaking point. and then i get so disheartened that i give up and then need to push myself to get going again. i really want to get out of this self-destructive pattern once and for all....

Very well put Locust! I am definitely much much harder on myself than I would ever think about being with any of my friends. The way you put that just made something click in my head. Thank you so much for your enlightening post!

This is so encouraging and true. I am always so much harder on myself than anyone else. I can now escape my own demise! Thanks for the enlightening!
