I almost think I operate in this world as two different people. There is the me who can function normally (per se) as an employee, shopper, friend, driver etc. Then there is this other person who is very confused, very hurt. Acts like a little kid @ times.
I am not dealing well with this finding.
Please someone...talk to me. Tell me what could be happening.

I think we survivors must all deal with this at times. The same thing happens to me. I am being one person on the outside, and all kinds of things are going through my head. Some of this you have to let go, and some you will learn to deal with on your own. We are all here for you.

DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) talks about something that perhaps can pertain to what you are referring. I will try to explain to the best of my abilities.

The mind can be divided into two states, the emotional mind and the reasonable mind.

Oftentimes when totally in the reasonable mind, there is no emotion and so one is able to function well, ie.: at work, shopping, taking care of things that need to be done and can be done without emotion. Sometimes it is useful to be totally in the reasonable mind without emotions. For example: When a loved one needs to go to the hospital because of an injury or similar, oftentimes the one taking them goes fully into the reasonable mind, devoid of emotion, in order to get the individual to the hospital safely and quickly. Sometimes after that individual is safely in the care of the doctor or other medical personel, the reasonable mind can relax and that is when emotions come into play.

When one is fully in the emotional mind, it may seem more childlike because one is acting out on impulse, fear, etc. Sometimes it's completely safe to be in emotional mind without problems. An example of this may be when your best friend has a new born baby and you can totally feel the joy of that baby.

Ideally, one would want a balance of the two. This can be considered Wise mind, a combination of the reasonable mind and the emotional mind. It takes a lot of practice and learning to achieve this. A therapist can assist with this process.

Oftentimes, previous experience can alter the brain so that individuals may have trouble finding the balance between emotional and reasonable mind. Sometimes when a situation comes up where a balance is needed, an individual may go completely on the emotional mind side because of their learned behavior. The result can be the opposite of what an individual might desire.

I do not know if this is what you mean or if it even helps. I just thought I would throw it out there for information. Please take it or trash it as needed.

Be safe,
