i have seen a counselor recently about what has happened but i dont feel a great connection with her, and am a little afraid to tell her what i am really feeling, so i find before i can stop myself, telling her the things she wants to hear. like you know i'm progressing really well, and that i am getting over it. she makes me a little uncomfortable, like she wants me to be better so she can move onto the next more deserving case.
its hard too as i am not very good at talking about it and tend to use my poetry and songs but she refuses to hear it, i try to tell her i'm not ready to deal with 'straight talking' about what happened but shes not interested. i kinda feel obligated to "get over it" has anyone been through anything similar? in terms of not clicking with the counselor? how do i manage, do i just convince her i am ok and leave it at that? the problem is that she is free, i cant afford to go to another one outside the college, there are others at the service but how do i face going in there to possibly see her in the foyer? any ideas? |

Hmm...I think this goes hand in hand with the famous saying "honesty is the best policy"
It is very important to feel connected with your consellor, and important that you feel comfortable sharing your feelings with your consellor, even if it's through poetry or songs. Your consellor should have enough respect for you aswell to not push you through this either, everyone heals at different paces and she should know this. I really think that you need to stand strong and tell her that she may be a great consellor but she's not the right consellor for you, and you would really benefit from your sessions if you had someone else. These services are here to help you, and if you are not benefiting from it, you are just going to go on with everything just burried inside. You need to stand strong, and be honest. |

can you just ask for a different counselor at your college. just say you don't feel like there is a good fit but you would still like to work on things. Good luck and so sorry that you are not getting the compassion you need.
