Hi! I want to know if it's normal for me to prefer being in the dark verses being in a room with lights on. My ex-boyfriend threatened to kill me. I filed a police report. They told me since he is an ex-navy seal and a boxer that it wouldn't be wise to go home right now. I'm staying with a friend for a few weeks. Am I over reacting? I've had severe headaches, and I don't want to talk. Not to friends, family or anybody. My eyes won't cry, but my heart won't stop. Can anyone help?

Hi there and welcome to PC.

I would listen to the police and ask them to refer you to your local victim's witness center. It should be in association with your prosecutor's office there.

Can you make one promise to yourself not to make a decision until you're able to make a better informed decision after talking with professionals?

Also, it sounds like you might be having some post traumatic stress with the headaches and isolation...getting in with a professional and talking now could help greatly.

Please let us know what you decide.

KD

Hey - been there and no I don't consider you over reacting. Contact your local domestic violence agency though you are safe right now, now would be a good time to formulate plans for that worse case scenerio and they offer free therapy services and so on so they can help you with those hard decisions that you are now facing and have ahead of you. They can also help you apply for a protection order so that if he comes with in 500 feet of you he can and will be arrested if you call the police (protection orders come with manditory jail time for violation) they will also go to court with you and have emergency shelters and services and are nation wide here in the USA.

Hang in there.

I've been there too and "myself" offers the best advise for you now. Don't let it slide and hope for the best. Call a crises center and get the help you need and deserve. As you take steps forward for yourself, the fear inside will lessen. Please keep us posted.

We all react different to different situations and threats. Don't feel that you are weird or abnormal, it's just the way your brain chooses to cope with the stress. Do you have someone that you trust 100% to help you through this? Life is much more difficult if we have to tackle it alone!
