Well I got triggered whilst I was daydreaming
during a bible study.
my friend was crying because none of her clothes
fitted her. We are the same age. It was menopause.
Well I feel a bit mean because my mind was saying
what about if she had to deal with the things I relentlessly
deal with. (I suppose I was crying oh poor me in my mind)
I looked at another person in bible study who doesn't believe
me about being abused at 3 years old. I know of others much
younger than that...she is an old lady who always expresses
' you could never experience anything as bad as I've been
through' (like the old Monty Python joke...) thus the daydreaming.
It's the same as ppl who think you could never remember
something from that young in your childhood.
The trauma is always not being believed.
But in essence I was doing the same as the non believer
at not empathising with my friend for not fitting in her
clothes...???

well you believed your friend didnt fit in her clothes you just didnt have any empathy because you dont think thats as big of a deal. Thats a bit mean in my opinion but understandable because sometimes we get so caught up in what we are going through that we forgot that the problems other people have are big to them. Next time you find yourself doing that just remember how it makes you feel when the elder women doesnt believe you. Not good, i suppose? So remember to "do to another as you want done to yourself" and show some empathy.

You know, Jul, I'm inclined to think like you.

In my case, song lyrics can be quite a trigger for me. I already mentioned one in another thread, but another one I don't care for is Shania Twain's "Honey, I'm Home." It's about a woman coming home from work and talking about what a hard day she's had. Then you listen to the "problems" she's moaning about. It's all full of, "I broke a nail... I got a run in my hose... my hair went flat...." And I think, "Woman, what would you do if you actually had a PROBLEM?" So I know exactly what you mean about that person moaning because her clothes don't fit. I'm not inclined to be very sympathetic either.

And, by the same token, there is always someone worse off than you. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't get your share of help too. Raspberries to those who don't believe you. Chalk it up to their narrow-minded ignorance, and just seek help among those who do believe you.
