falling down, sorry to hear you are having so many challenges in NA.

Some studies show that having a new life alternative provides a better chance of successful dropping of addictions. One thing is just to do something positive that takes the focus off fighting addiction and instead focus on reinventing the self image.

Hi, I struggled for many years trying to get clean and sober. The last time, I tried a few different things:
I prayed every morning for 1 clean day. (Despite being agnostic).
Daily meetings.
Actually listening at meetings with an open mind.
Having a sponsor and trying to muddle through the steps.

With a little effort and luck, the days turned into weeks, then months, now I have over 20 years. If a screw-up like me can do it, I think it's possible for anyone. Keep trying, even after a "slip".

I think you have to really deep down want to be sober. You have to do it for yourself and not the court or spouse or kids or whatever and you have to really surrender to the fact it is more powerful than you. Those are the first steps. Then follow all the suggestions that have gotten people lasting sobriety.

I know a guy who relapsed hard every year for like ten years straight. Today he has 15 years. I always saw him working very hard so I didn't understand it. I need to ask him if he knows why. Never never give up. I have twenty years now. The last five years of using was heavy meth. That got ugly.

And I should say I went to my first AA meeting years before I got sober. I would go to meetings and get a six pack on the way home. I knew I needed help but wasn't quite ready yet.

Thanks for being honest here. Are you being honest with your peers at the meetings? Do you think you might need professional help in addition to the program? Some addictions do lend themselves better to professional assistance, especially if detox is needed (opiates and benzos come to mind).

Lol! I used to leave meetings during the break and get loaded, all that talk of booze made me crave it really bad!! I rarely made it all the way to the end.
