After years of being "treatment resistant", I'm starting TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation). I start next week and will have 5 sessions a week, for six weeks.
I'm trying not to get my hopes up, it may not work. I've tried so many treatments over the last 20 yrs., I'm not sure there's anything that's going to help me. But it can't hurt to try.....here we go again. |

Hello Jolisse: Well, I certainly celebrate the fact that, after 20 years of trying, you're still out there working to find a helpful treatment! Please keep us posted with regard to how it's going. I'm certain there are many members, here on PC, who will be interested to learn more about TMS. My best wishes to you.

I had my first treatment of TMS yesterday, the first visit lasted two hours.
Initially the doctor had to do a "brain mapping", figuring out where to put the device and at what level it needed to be at. The machine sends magnetic impulses to the brain at 26 second intervals, for about 40 minutes. It feels like a woodpecker tapping on your head and I found it extremely uncomfortable, but I managed to get through it. The treatment consists of 5 treatments a week x 6 weeks, I just hope I can make it to the sixth week. If TMS works, I should start seeing results within 4 weeks. I have my second treatment today......wish me luck! ![]() |

Second treatment was a little bit better, but the tapping on my head is creating anxiety.

I was supposed to have that done also. My insurance would not cover it. Can you tell me are the treatments really expensive?

The treatment cost about $12,000. More insurance companies are covering it, now that it has been approved. |

I'm really interested in hearing how this goes for you as well. I also have been labeled treatment resistant and I'm unwilling to do ECT as my pdoc suggested. The main reason being that I don't have the time in my life to take away from college/work to devote to treatment. The other being that I am incredibly concerned with the side effects.
Thanks for posting this! |
