I have severe chronic depression. I work full-time. I spend the whole day just trying to stay awake. I have no ambition, no motivation, I get home from work at 530 and have to take a nap just so I can have enough energy to make myself dinner and then go back to bed. I don't know what kind of life this is. I keep promising myself that soon I will do more, and soon I will have energy again, but it never happens...I'm just going through the motions, waiting for a bus to hit me.

((((( seesaw )))))

Times like now are very hard to keep pushing yourself through, but perhaps you can try focusing on the tiny things in life that you care about? Or, make a few small changes in your daily tasks, to provide yourself with something new?

It is still hard, but it can provide some new moments to focus on for a second or two. The more often it's done, the easier it gets to relax & enjoy the moment. A nice release!

It sounds like you may have some sleep issues if you are drowsy all day. Maybe you should get referred for a sleep study. Sleep apnea can contribute to depression.

I'm sorry you're feeling this way. I can relate. You're not alone, we're all here to support you. I hope your doctor can find the right combo of meds and figure out why you're so tired all the time. Things will get better.

Shez, nothing gives me pleasure anymore. I've tried, I really have, but in the end I'm just doing things to take up time in the day so I don't feel guilty about sleeping all day.

My husband slept 16 hours a day or more - when he started adderall he was able to balance out and sleeps right around 8 hours a day now. He isn't depressed, he has ADD. Are you sure your need for sleep is limited to Depression?

Also, have you ever tried any change of diet to eliminate chemicals in your system, become more cleansed so the body works more naturally? (Rhetorical - question is for you, not for me).

Best of luck to you!

I feel for you seesaw, you are so strong keeping on working and keeping going somehow.
You also help encourage so many people here, you certainly add to the sum of human happiness, or at very least reduce the sum of human unhappiness.

I sincerely hope, pray and wish for you to get some better days, that your existence will turn again into a life. It did for me for 20 years, so it is possible.

seesaw-

I'm new to this forum, but I wanted to reply to your post. It's exhausting to get through the day when we don't really want to participate! I am the same way, although I try really hard not to try to sneak in a nap after work because I have trouble getting to sleep when it's actually bed time.

I'll just say do the best you can and try to stay strong. You are already being a force by getting through the day when you feel the way you do!

This is one of the things I struggle with most - not enjoying anything. Everything feels so blah and unfulfilling.

Things seem to have gotten a little better than they were last week. I've been taking my meds more regularly the past couple of days and I changed the time I take my meds so I'm not so exhausted during the day.

I don't feel so dispairing as I did last week. I guess the real low of my depression comes and goes. I'm always low but then there are days when I'm just in the depths of despair.

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. I totally relate to what you said... My normal baseline is depressed, but those lows are really low.

I hear you Seesaw. Many times I feel like I can't take it anymore. I work too. People think because I work and take care of business, I'm not very depressed. It sure feels like I'm very depressed.

Hi Seesaw

Your diagnosis, meds and treatment list look like my partner's

I see from him how hopeless it makes him feel.
He is trying to look in to a combination of anti-depressant drugs that he has researched. Have you come across anything like that?
