sometimes our periods are heavier than at other times. are you on contraception? Cos that can make a difference. i know mine are heavier cos of my coil than they were before.

but if you are worried and there's a chance it could be a miscarriage then i suggest you speak to your dr.

I'm not on contraception at all. Just get the guy to use a condom. I know thats wrong but. . . I also know that its not a miscarriage this time. What has bothered me was the really bright red blood and fluid. And that it was real heavy. Did intense exercise today can that affect flow and color. If you can help it would be great. Gross questions i know.

A heavy workout can have an impact on your cycle. If you take something like Advil it should help the bleeding. If you have taking something that is asprin it will make you bleed more. Have you tried to eat anything? Also, if you lay down if should help. If it is really bad, I would go ahead and call the Dr.

Bright is good (lets us know its new blood) - Dark is bad (old blood)

Bright red blood is just fine- as Rhapsody said, bright red = new blood. The brownish blood and large clots = old blood and myometrium.

Exercise and good fluid intake will increase the amount of outflow. Wearing a pad for heavy flow and or tampon for heavy ~ which is changed after your workout *should* erase the problem. That's my personal (not professional) recommendation. If you regularly go through a heavy pad in 30 minutes (or less), go to the ER.

It's great that it isn't a miscarriage. Sorry that happened to you before. As for it being wrong to only use condoms for bc, I disagree. It's not wrong to use condoms and no chemical birth control. Condoms are important to use when you might be taking a change of getting an STD, which chemical BC will not prevent. Also, while using a condom and chemical bc (shot, pill, etc.) does decrease pregnancy risk even more than one of them alone, bc pills, bc shots, and things such as IUD's, carry risks that condoms do not, and you have to weigh whether the benefits are worth the risks to you, personally. If they aren't, then not using it in addition to your condom is not "wrong".

My periods have changed since being on anti-depressants - I think I bleed the same amount but in a much shorter space of time, so a couple of heavy days then very little - whereas before it would last 4-5 days. I've never asked a doctor about it, just kind of accepted it. But as others say, if pads are getting soaked very quickly, it is definitely worth asking your gp about it as there may be a reason for it.
