I'm thinking of trying antidepressants again. My depression really is worse before my period. Just curious if anyone had gone to pdoc due to worsened depression from PMS - and what you tried. (Will of course talk to the doc too).

By all means, speak to your pdoc about your depression and PMS/PMDD. I had intermittent severe PMS (maybe 8 out of 12 cycles) and co-morbid undiagnosed bipolar disorder. I was started on an SSRI and became manic. However, once a mood stabilizer was on board, I stopped having the cyclical PMS. I also stopped caffeine, lowered my salt intake, started eating healthier meals and began to exercise. I think the combination of the meds and lifestyle changes made all the difference. Hello-
I've been dealing with PMDD symptoms for about one year on and off. I was on three different SSRIs at different times. (anti-depressant class of drugs used to treat PMDD.) For me, they did not work, they made me feel much worse. I did stop my birth control pill, I still have symptoms but I have noticed that the episodes last 3-4 days (they used to last a week to 2 weeks.) One thing that helped me is going to a therapist. and when I have more 'anxious episodes' my therapist suggested I do 'kick boxing' or some kind of active activity instead of yoga. pmdd.factsfor health.com (this website is useful too, i thought) I used the monthly log and showed my doctor that I seem to only be getting the heart palpatations, increased anxiety, depression, etc right before my period.) |

Hi,
I am also being treated for depression as well as pmdd. The depression is usually not a problem until pmdd. My doctor has upped my dosage of cymbalta during pmdd. Good luck. |
