Finally I got my period. I tend to feel better when I get it. Trouble is, I only get it a few times a year. Always been that way, the past 40 years. I tried taking hormones for it, and they made me severely depressed. But I have mood swings and they seem like what people describe as PMS - cranky for no reason! Very cranky! I am so clueless about my body most of the time, and I have never had female friends to talk about this stuff with. So basically I get PMS most of the year, it seems, and then it gets worse. And finally it ends for a while.
Does this resonate with anyone? Any thoughts? Can't do the hormone route - shudder - but what else? At 50 plus you think this would be all done, but no. When does it end? And then what? Any insight or helpful suggestions? ![]() |

I get one every other month now. I am 45 and taking black cohosh; not sure it's working; it's a natural remedy for menopause and pms issues.
I have also been more moody and irritable. My doctor shines it on; thinks it's just my "mental stuff". Carol

I will be 45 in just a few days. I've noticed some changes in the past few years, although blood and urine tests I took a few weeks ago came back normal (however, I'm going to call them and get more specifics). I still get my period monthly, although not always when I expect it. It's been early a few times. It's not as heavy as it used to be (but still enough that it's messy). When I first got it at age 11, for a few years, I would start, then after two or three days, it would stop (or the flow would get very light), then start up again (kind of heavy) for like one more day or two as it finished. That cycle has been happening again to me, although I'm noticing I don't always stop all the way lately.
My mom told me that her period stopped completely at age 44, and she's baffled why I haven't hit menopause yet. What can I say, Mom? We're two different people! LOL! I hate dealing with my period, but I don't look forward to menopause (except for the stopping of menstruating). My sex drive is much lower than it used to be and this upsets me greatly. I worry that when my period stops for good, it'll be even lower. My pdoc gave me a pill to try (apparently an allergy med) to help with sex drive, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm only supposed to take it two or three hours before I want to masturbate (my boyfriend hasn't been interested in years, but that's another story). It has side effects that I don't want, if the goal is to get aroused. Also, I just want my sex drive back; I don't want to take a pill when I'm not already aroused. But I'm just complaining...never mind me. ![]()

I hear you. Mine has always been irregular and unpredictable. Then I start getting PMS and I i become really tense, anxious, crabby, and a pain to be with. I try my best to keep it under my hat so to speak, but sometimes things just come out of my mouth before I realize it.
Sometimes hormone treatments can help. They helped me somewhat but did not entirely solve the problem. Many women are just different. I am going to be 41 tomorrow and haven't noticed anything that resembles pre-menopause. It sounds to me like you really need to see a gynocologist. None of us are competent to offer medical advice, and like nutrition there are zillions of myths and untested hypotheses around that have little basis in science I wish you the best |

Thanks LarissaDragon.
I've seen a lot of doctors. Their only solution is the hormones that I couldn't hack. I was wondering if other people have similar patterns ahd how they handle them. |
