At what age do you remember masterbating? Even if you didn't know at the the time you didn't know what it was called. I don't mean as a toddler who puts their hands in their pants. I mean like intentionally going somewhere to do that? I'm just trying to gage what is average...

Wow now I'm afraid to answer lol. I remember i started doing it intentionally on a regular basis when I was only about 4. Most of my childhood is a horrible blur but certain things are etched into my memory, this being one of them.
I always felt so dirty afterwards, even as I got older & did it. I would cry so hard & felt so much shame.
I found out a couple weeks ago that a teenager in my neighborhood did something to me when I was just a little girl. Idk how I don't remember it but my mom told me. That was the 1st in a line of people to harm me that way. The others I remember bc I was an older child/teenager.

Can't remember for myself (sort of recall around 10 or so) but, I remember my son, between 4 and 5; I was reading a story to him, and I could see this rhythmic movement under the covers, then he said "Mom. Don't look under the covers." I asked "Why?" and he said "I don't know, but don't look under the covers." I didn't, but it was hard not to crack up. I guess all he knew then was that it felt good.

My answer is similar to Tinyrabbit. I started around 4 or 5 and would do it in inappropriate places (like the classroom). I knew it was "wrong" but could not stop. I suspect it was a result of abuse.

I think it's a need for comfort since it feels good and you're looking to get comfort out of it. Just my theory.

just a comment.. I know many toddlers as young as a yr that discover it feels good and will actively masturbate to self sooth just like a child will suck their thumbs to feel better. that was me I discovered at a very young age how soothing and enjoyable it can be. 9 I think. By 10 it was definitely happening. At first I did it in the living room... my mother told me "stop it, you'll make yourself sore." I am very embarrassed to this day.

I voted 4-5 because that's how old I was when my mother kept scolding me for touching myself. It wasn't for self-pleasure at that time, but just exploration and curiosity. Nothing more came into my mind than if I were playing with my hair or my glasses. The first time I actually self-pleasured was age 13. Right around both of these ages, I had recently been molested by an adult.
