So basically here I am. Just got out of an abusive relationship - or rather, getting out of it - having no help whatsoever.
Lastly I had sex on 18th of August. I got my periods on 1st September - routine thing. Usual couple of days delay then.
This month I still haven't.
I am going crazy - I can't be pregnant.
Trying all crazy things like ginger and cumin and asafoetida.
Still just haven't gone for papayas cos hate 'em.
Am so worried. I can't take tests - I am in such a situation.
Could I be pregnant? Please ignore my bluntness and help
Hugs from:

well, there is a chance...you have to get pregnant so many days before a period to stop the next period but I don't know what that is. you would have to research it. but likely this one isn't coming because of stress. all the crazy stuff you are trying is not having any effect at all. you can stop. why cant you take tests? that would be the easiest way to relieve your mind. it is really simple, just pee and look at a stick. you can do it in the stores bathroom. if you are having difficulty getting out, contact your local domestic violence shelter. they will help. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

Well, there's 31 days in August. Are you a regular 28day cycle? Ovulation rule of thumb, by count, It's a long shot, by numbers. But could happen.

Aside from one skipped period, any other symptoms?

Is there a spiritual reason for not taking even a dollar store test?

So, I got my periods finally - though I don't know any differences - I've looked up a lot on this and there are people saying that we can get periods even if pregnant.
I've none of the symptoms mentioned though - nausea, bloating, aversion/craving to some foods, etc. - nothing at all.

It is kind of a taboo here in my place to go and get pregnancy kits and more so to visit the doctors. Oh, if only I could be sure

Why is it taboo to go see a doctor ?
If your going to have sex and not take birth control or have your man use a condom and even that is not 100% then why take a chance in having sex ?

Hmmm... Wouldn't help if the guy was abusive and forced me into it... Just getting out of the relationship was hard enough with people trying to get married off with him.

My PCP told me that a drugstore test is as accurate as a test done at a clinic, and there are two tests in a package so you can be really sure. Determining if you are pregnant does not require a visit to a clinic. I do not understand how it can be taboo to buy a test, unless in your drugstores you have to ASK a shop assistant for a test. Even if that is the case, it would be better to overcome the taboo, get a test, and get peace of mind from having a negative result.

PS PCP=Primary Care Provider, usually a family physician.

There is a way - go buy a test. I cannot believe in a big city you cannot do that. It is highly unlikely that you are pregnant after two periods and without symptoms but to be sure, you go buy a test. What is the problem with that - you are not in a village. I looked up your city and it is big. There must be drugstores with pregnancy tests - just go and buy one.

Chennai is the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Located on the Coromandel Coast off the Bay of Bengal, it is the biggest industrial and commercial centre in South India, and a major cultural, economic and educational centre. Wikipedia

Here is a list of drugstores that come up in google search for your city:

Your period is late when you're stressed, and trying all sorts of remedies; sounds like you are way stressed. The symptoms of pregnancy are similar to pre menstrual symptoms, so you can't go by that. Nobody here can tell if you are pregnant. The only way to know is buying a test- for future reference. Also, if anyone forces sex that's rape, and he can get charged and arrested. Tell someone, you deserve to be heard and respected, it's not taboo..(?)

Hmmm sadly I live in the suburbs along with a zillion relatives nearby with watchful eyes - they'll create a scene if we go buy tests. But these same people will be oblivious to abuse. Not to mention, this ex of mine is going to great lengths to show up at office at unusual times trying to scare the hell out of me.

How will the zillion relatives know if you drive to (or take a bus) to a nearby suburb and go to a drugstore? I think you are overestimating how watchful those eyes are. If you are already scared that you might be pregnant, then your judgment is off, which can lead to thinking that everybody is watching you closely whereas in fact people are self-absorbed and preoccupied with their stuff.

The earlier you put your fears in re: possible pregnancy to rest, the sooner you will recover good judgment.

It is unlikely that you are pregnant now that we are in the second half of October, but seeing a negative test is far more relieving than reading somebody's estimates or guesses on the Internet.

What about your family have you ask them for help ?
Can you order the test on line and have it delivered to your home ?

Walk into a drug store purchase one and ask to use there bathroom and take the test , results in minutes .. Then you will know and the test will be tossed in there garbage can, walk back out and buy some candy and go back home ... No one will be able to figure out what you did ... Just as Hamster said people have enough stuff of there own to give a hoot bout you go to a drug store.

Simple solution .

I wish you the best.
