I am 45 years old woman and was wondering if anyone here who is at my age or older has experience Menopause ?
I still get my period and no hot flashes but should I be getting this soon ? I will be so happy when I no longer have to deal with periods anymore . Oh and once your period stop can you have unprotected sex and not worry about being knocked up ? |

Hi, Nature1968. I was diagnosed with perimenopause when I was around 45. I was still having periods but had a low estrogen level. It was still a few years before my periods stopped. I do know that as long as you are having periods you can get pregnant. After the periods stopped there's no guarantee that you won't get pregnant, at least I don't think there is. I had my tubes tied when I was 42 to be safe. My periods just started getting irregular until they finally quit. It is nice not to have to go through them anymore.

You should use protection for the first year after your last period. Your period might start up for one month or two after stopping for a few months, in which case you have to start counting and using protection for a year all over again, or you risk getting a "boo-boo baby". I think all that fooling around at a later age can get your hormones revved up again for mother nature to take one last chance. Thats what it felt like to me, anyway!

![]() So in that semi-retired stage she mostly consulted perimenopausal and menopausal women and I remember being a little girl and listening on her phone conversations. I still remember "as long as there is even a little bit of spotting...". I do not remember the continuation of the conversation, but probably she was warning women and telling them that they still should use protection. |

I was an "oops" baby. My Mom thought she was well into menopause and so she and my Dad stopped using contraception. Bingo, along came me.
I'm 45 and fully menopausal. I haven't actually had normal periods for years due to meds, but my last period was around 18 months ago now. I'm lucky, I'm not getting any hot flashes, but I have been cursed with an excess of facial hair - drives me nuts. On a semi-related note. What defines when menopause is over? splitimage |
