Hey there ladies,
I'm pretty much sure I'm going to be getting the Paragard withing the next few weeks. Do any of you have it and can you describe your experience? How do you like it? Most of the reviews I read online were positive so I told myself I'm going to get it. I actually was going to get it about a year ago but I scared myself out of it... lol |

No personal experience with an iud, of any kind. I do recall my mom had used one, after numerous years on the pill. She didn't complain of it. My obgyn has said that it's at times difficult to get newer iuds approved with insurance, when I consulted with him about mirena when that first was advertised.
Guess, rule of thumb with online reviews and comments is understanding the source of comments and look for any conflict of interest. Don't take reviews at face value. Hope it works for you. |

When I was young I had a copper IUD. No problems with it at all. My periods got lighter I think. It was uncomfortable at the time of insertion and I had cramps and spotting and then it was trouble free for years. Good luck.

Thanks for the input! I had to get over my fear of the pain and realize it would give me years of worry-free sex. That makes it totally worth it!!

I had one inserted last year and it perforated my uterus. I had to have surgery to have it removed from up by my ribs. I think it had more to do with my doctor sucking than a problem with the Paragard.

Had one, HATED IT! Had it removed after 3 months.... PMS symptoms all month long, 25 times worse than anything I'd ever experienced before. I was miserable. My breasts were so sore that I hated to even wear a shirt! Crampy, crampy, crampy.... My periods went from being normal for 5 days to heavy bleeding for 10 days. We're talking soaking through the largest size tampon and a pad within an hour for over a week! (Sorry if TMI, but yeah...)
It doesn't have hormones in it, BUT copper in your system can affect your hormone levels. I did TONS of research after having it inserted and experiencing these symptoms from hell. I know that I'm one of the minority in this regard, but I'm far from being the only one. I'm now super sensitive to copper. I can't take vitamins with copper in them, supplements with copper in them, and even soy is a no-go due to the high copper content of soy. I also found that the copper IUD can indeed cause copper toxicity symptoms like I experienced. The IUD literature will tell you that it puts minute amounts of copper into your system that cannot possibly cause copper toxicity issues....but, the truth is that its constantly leaking copper into your system. Think about it....there's a reason why there are daily recommended allowances for copper. Just because the copper is inserted into your uterus doesn't mean that the body doesn't absorb it any differently than if you ate copper in your diet. So....maybe you'll tolerate it well, but don't be fooled into thinking that the side effects will necessarily be more mild because it doesn't have hormones. |

I have the Mirena. It works wonders. No periods, except occasional random mild cramps and spotting. I got it to not have to worry about pills or pregnancy as well as to cure my abnormal painful cramps.
I had my mirena inserted in surgery so I could be knocked out while they did it because of my own fears. The scariest part was the pill I took to open up the uterus. I experienced the pain of contractions which was terrifying! But in the end it was worth it. |

Why wouldn't you be able to get it?

Oh, I meant get it out! If I get it now, and in 8 years or something society crumbles and then I wouldn't be able to get it removed.

Just had mine removed due to complications. Had it about 1 year. Loved it at first. Didn't have to think about it. After removal I could feel my vagina releasing the stress it was under.
