I'm really afraid to ask this because I don't know what answers I get or getting judged, but here it goes.

I won't have kids for a few years, so I have time to think about this, but I'd like some advice. Pregnancy may not be an option for me, so I am considering adoption. I know that children with special needs requires a special kind of person to raise, but I believe I can be that special person. This is something I've only been thinking about recently. I'm no way ready to be a mom right this second, but I'm wondering if anyone here has experience teaching or raising those with special needs, or if there is a place I can go to get my questions answered. Thank you.

I have no first hand knowledge, but I do know that its hard as hell to be approved to adopt if you have mental illness(s).

Im sure someone will come along as have more useful information.

The only way I can imagine you being judged based on this question is by your heart... sounds you have a big heart.
Thanks for this!

I don't know much about it but i have a suggestion. Since the process of applications and approvals can be so long why not go ahead and do some research on agencies and contact a few, explain your particular situation and see if you meet the requirements and find out what you can do to be better prepared when the time comes. Also your community probably has group homes/ care providers for special needs children. Contact them and see if you can be involved somehow. They usually need volunteers, that would help you and them
Thanks for this!

I have 2 children with Autism and one also has a hyperactivity disorder. You could locate a child development center they are full of knowledge about special needs and the details about it. Also if you'd like to, you can pm me anytime with questions. I fostered a child who had medical and mental special needs as well. Have you thought about what type of special needs?
