So far I've only gotten two gel manicures from the same place. Both times my nails started chipping after a week to 10 days. Isn't the manicure supposed to last for 2-3 weeks? That's what's I've been told by other women. They've all raved about how great it is.
My nails tend to chip and break easily sometimes. Especially now since I started working a physically demanding job as a stocker. Does doing a lot of physical stuff including typing on the computer often and doing dishes cause the gel manicure to not last as long? I'd like to know what other women's experiences have been like with gel manicures and how long yours have lasted for most of the time. Does the type of polish that is used make a difference or not? I don't know a thing about this type of stuff. It's expensive, so I don't know if getting them is worth it anymore especially since it costs $10 just to remove the polish! |

My takeaway from the manufacturer claims that the manicure can last three weeks or whatever, is that they can be sneaky about the types of activities you can do with the gel stuff. Also, maybe you aren't getting the type of top coat on that can help preserve the whole thing. It's similar though, to the types of manufacturer claims that mobile phones have. They'll say you can get a certain amount of hours or days between charges, but not tell you exactly how to achieve that feat. So, I think manufacturer claims are kind of mysterious since, in the real world, the results fall short of the claims. I wouldn't call them lies exactly, but the real world use falls short. |

Obviously the more working your doing with your hands is going to effect how long gel nails are going to hold up or any kind of nails yours or artifical.
I did acrylic nails for a living in the past... Some people never had a problem and some people were breaking nails often... The biggest thing I told any of my client is . Don't use your nails as tools, They will not hold up if your opening soda cans or prying things .. So yes your particular job ( stocking shelves) is going to effect how long your manicure is going to hold up.

Thanks. I suspected that the products that they use may not be the most top quality stuff that there is. So I'll try going to another place and see what happens instead. |

Thanks. That's what I thought. I guess that as long as I'm doing what I do now, that I can forget about having nice nails for awhile. Sighs. On the bright side, I got my first paycheck yesterday- ![]() |

I have acrylic and had to learn the hard way that they are not indestructible...but the gel nails I had gotten in the past shattered on me for some reason...I was never really happy with them though, hard to change the color, uv light is HOT...but yeah, if you are doing a lot with your hands, your nails won't last too long no matter which type you have. btw..I keep mine very short as well.

So it looks like as long as I'm working a lot with my hands, that even the best gel manicure isn't going to last. I should just save my money and just get a regular one then and only use clear or very light polish from now on.
