I am unclear what you are asking. Do you want to know the average age when all women experience menopause or the age at which each of us as individuals had menopause?

Generally most women experience menopause at the same age their mothers did.

Went into perimenopause at about 51. Still there at 53 but fairly close to full menopause I think (fingers crossed - I'm ready to be done with it).

I was told by my OB at age 50 that I had been through menopause, and I never even knew it because I had a hystorectomy. I never even got hot flashes.

I think most women enter menopause (being completely done, no period for 12 months) between 50 and 55, my mom was 53. I think most of us enter perimenopause in our mid to late 40s.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, I'm a nullip too (had to look it up). So I'm going through mine earlier than my mom.

I am 51 and have been in perimenopause, I think.

I have an IUD and haven't had regular periods for years. Lately I have been bleeding a few times a month. Not experiencing any other symptoms and my hormone levels were checked and regular for test. and estrogen, etc. Had full panel last year and everything health wise was great.

Gonna see my gyno soon and ask.

My mother died last month and she had nothing she could tell me about her menopause. (That was typical of our relationship, sigh.)

Is it common for women who have not given birth to have earlier menopause than their mothers?

I started perimenopause at 46 but had a total hysterectomy at 47, so menopause started earlier than usual for me.

I don't know, but your question is interesting. Maybe you can find some info online?

I'm 53, had regular periods until March, but haven't had a period since then.

My mom had a hysterectomy at 51, so have no idea when it would have been normal for her.

I finally realized that I was going through menopause at the age of 53-54 but I didn't realize what was going on. I had gone through a trauma in 2004 & ended up seriously anorexic & my period had stopped then (I was 51).....so I just thought that it was the anorexia.

Then I left my bad marriage after 33 years. Wt the age of 54 & moved from the dry hot desert of Southern California to the humid heat of KY. I was still dealing with anorexia recovery & I just thought that the sweating had to do with the horrible humidity that I was then dealing with. It finally dawned on me that he was menopause. Hot flashes lasted on & off for about a year & them poof, they were gone. LOL, we had another really hot humid summer this year & it almost felt like I was going through hot flashes again. I don't use my AC unless it's over 90F so obviously it had to have been the heat & the fact that I was sick & running a temp that kept breaking.....felt just like when I had the hot flashes but only lasted for the few summer months that were extremely miserable this year.

Can't imagine how bad it is for some people....just like with everything else, I usually just blow it off as something else. LOL...I thought my labor pains were indigestion from eating a whole bag of BBQ potato chips after eating no junk food at all for 9 months. I am definitely NOT a good indication of NORMAL.

ValentinaVW,

If it were me, I'd go see your GP about the spotting. Sometimes it's just a perimenopause symptom, and sometimes it's more serious. I had some spotting about 18 months after I hit menopause, and my GP sent me for an ultrasound. Turned out to be nothing.

I need to do that. I was like this in my 20s. Used to have tons of irregular periods.

I am almost 47 and still getting a period every month that last 4 or 5 days. I get hot flashes and they are much heavier than they were before I had kids. so I think I'm in peri or pre menopause. My gynecologist told me 50-53 is about the average give or take a few years younger or older. My mother had premature menopause at 39 so I feel fortunate in that respect, but I'm pretty ready for menopause.

I hit menopause last year at 44. My doctor said it's on the young side but not completely out of the norm.
