I personally do not take the Depo shot, but my niece has been using this form of birth control for a few years now - after the birth of her first child (a girl) that is three years old.

I've had it once.

The University Medical clinic swore by it (were really very encouraging). I had a look online and saw mixed reviews. Seems about half the people on it have no trouble at all (and swear by it) while the other half have trouble and swear they will never take it again!

My experience was of the later. I felt bloated - like my body wanted to have a period. A bit crampy and bloated and stuff. And I felt like that... Oh for about 4 months or 6 months or whatever it was until my period finally came. So... Never again for me.

Are you thinking about doing it or have you done it already?

I had trouble with it. It completely killed my sex drive, so there was no use for birth control, and it also made me a total ******, so my husband didn't want sex then anyway. LOL
I would experiment with the same drugs on a monthly pill before you go ahead for a long term treatment.

I am not on it. But, I will say I am PETRIFIED of it because I have heard so many horror stories from friends about it. Apparently it has some nasty side effects both physically and mentally.

It depends Rainbowzz. Me and my kid sister were on it at the same time and had completely opposite reactions.

I have been on it for about a year. I don't notice any emotional side effects or anything. When I get really stressed I feel cramps that feel like period cramps even though most of the time with depo i have no period.

Depo was the first hormonal method I used. I was 16 I think. Used it for several years until about age 22 when I switched to the pill. My periods stopped completely with Depo and until right before I switched I had no major problems with it. All of a sudden my period came back unexpectedly and very heavy, so I made the switch to the pill. I'm fixed permanently now so I don't have to deal with either.

I HATED it. It killed my sex drive and make my emotions go all over the place. I didn't gain weight while I was waitressing on it but when I quit waitressing the weight poured on. Plus I didn't like not having periods. Something about the "monthly cleansing" is comforting to me.

I cannot be sure about my weight gain, because when I started my depo, i had also started my "sit on my but for 8 hours" desk job so I wouldnt know if it was the depo or not.

I'm on the pill form of depo (called cerazette) have t take it everyday instead of having injection... been taking it for three months now and it hasnt stopped my periods... I've bled more. But I've been given it for medical reasons so have been asked to take it at least six months.
I don't know whether it's the pill or not, but since I've been taking it I've had bad anxiety attacks, which I never had and my depression has got worse. Not sure whether or not it's the pill though.

i dont know if i could go on the pill anymore, i am going towards my bad habbits of not taking my meds at the same time everyday, and i used to forget to take my birth control so thats why i went on the shot, it was so much easier. But i better figure out what i want to do, because i am due for a shot at the very end of this month/beginning of next month and my new insurance doesnt cover anything besides for oral contriceptives. RRRR !

Depo is good for young women, especially teenage girls because it doesn't take responsibility. I had it when I was a youngin, good thing too. But, I'll say, when I did finally get off the %#@&#! I bled for a month straight and lost excessive weight. Just be careful with it and do exactly what docs say.

Wow, I would say no way!! I did the depo shot for 6 months, and I gained the average 15 pounds!! I was horrified when I weighed myself because all of my clothes started to get snug!! So I went online one day, and read that it is an average of 5-15lbs weight gain. I couldn't wait to get off of the depo, I will for sure stick with the pill from now on because I have been on the pill since the birth of my son (2 1/2 years ago) and tried the depo last fall, for six months, now back to the pill, and my weight has gradually gone back to where it was b4!! But anyways, good luck with your decision.

Oh my goodness I started on Depo before I switched to the pill. This was a must for me because I'd just started my monthly which they've been irregular since day one. When I got on Depo my monthly stopped all together I didn't have none at all for 3 months or more then they put me on the pill I'd to switch birth control pills more than once though because I was feeling sick and stuff, but the pill I'm on now is the Desogen and it's been doing wonders and I feel great taking it even though what really sucks is the weight gain even though that's the only time I gain weight is when I'm on my monthly I loose it when I'm done so it's helped alot.
