Well, I don't know if I'll actually deliver on my due date - probably not (I think that the statistics are 5% actually go on their due date; 50% of first-time moms deliver after their due date). But still - 6 days! Even if she ends up being 2 weeks late, that's still really exciting for me!
I was really impatient to go into labor a few weeks ago, but now that I'm not going into the office, I am finding myself to be SO MUCH MORE comfortable. I don't mind the wait now - if she's happy, then I'm happy to keep her inside me until she is ready. I like having her inside me anyway ![]() Anyway, I'm doing some high-quality nesting and I'll keep you all posted!

Wow! I suppose it could happen any minute, but I wasn't dilated as of Thursday and I really don't FEEL like I'm going to go into labor, so who knows?

Update: 40 weeks as of tomorrow, and I'm STILL not dilated! Argh! My doctor wants me to consider being induced on Wednesday if I haven't kicked into labor by then. I've been having contractions on/off for 3 days, but she has determined that I have an "unfavorable cervix". Annoying. Anyway, we took the appointment but we're still thinking about whether we want to be induced or not. I guess we'll try the prostoglandin, but I'm on the fence about whether I want pitocin. I'm leaning toward no, as long as the baby has enough fluid and is not in any distress.

When my oldest son was two weeks overdue I was pretty badly wanting to get it overwith and told the doctor so. His answer was "when the apple is ready, it will fall from the tree" so I waited another week.
My labor stopped, they took me to X-ray and confirmed what I had known for a couple of months. David was laying with his head against my left hip. So... they injected me with pitocin anyway, to give me some strong contractions to get him turned around. Believe me LMo, you DO NOT want the pitocin. If the baby is doing good and so are you, the only reason to induce you or give you a C-section is STRICTLY for the doctor's convenience! ![]() ![]() ![]()

lmo can they give you the cervidil? it thins the cervix and should start contractions. you should be able to do this without the pitocin. good luck hon. keep us posted.

Cervidil is the brand name for prostoglandin. That's what the doctor is suggesting as the first step. I really don't want the pitocin - there isn't much turning back afterwards, and I really don't want to rush things and be stuck with a c-section if everything ends up happening EXCEPT dilation. The prostoglandin/cervidil is the synthetic version of the hormone that is in semen... if I could get my husband to actually HAVE SEX WITH ME then I suppose I wouldn't even necessarily need it. What got the baby in is supposed to get the baby out, so they say. But nevertheless, it's not guaranteed to "work" and I haven't read of ANY risks in trying it, so we decided to see if we have any luck with that before we make any final decisions about the pitocin (which I'm still leaning towards 'no' about).
Thanks both ![]() Today is my due date - how freaky...

When I was on my second week of being over due I forced my husband to have sex with me every chance I got. But my husband is easy....very very very easy. It didn't really help though, still with all that sexin I ended up being induced anyway...both of my pregnancies.
Gravity helps too, be sure to walk around a lot. |

I will tell you what my daughters dr told her. if she wanted to go into labor go home and have a really good orgasm. it worked! just sex won't do it without the big O. lol. get your hubby to give you a foot massage also. or a massage therapist can do the trick. they are trained. not sure if any of it will help without any dilation though but good luck and have fun

I don't think I'd want to know that about my daughter....
![]() Got the O thing going on - don't need hubby's participation for that (although would be nice...). I'm going to go to acupuncture tomorrow to see if that will help. But you know what? It's GORGEOUS outside - not a cloud in the sky and the dogwood is blooming. We just got up from a catnap in the grass - not such a bad thing to spend the day at home in our garden instead of in a smelly ole hospital.

I admit that my husband had to pull me up... my belly is enormous and unwieldy!
My back aches so much these days that it's difficult to stand for more than a minute at a time. I have devised a method for cooking and doing dishes while sitting down. 2 days ago, I was taking a shower and my back hurt so much that I decided to sit on a little footstool that I keep in the shower stall (for shaving my legs). I couldn't get myself up afterwards! The water went cold and my husband couldn't hear me calling for him... so I shivered (couldn't reach the faucet) until I finally figured out how to get onto my hands and knees and pull myself up using the soap dish!

Here is a video of my belly moving... a little blurry, but it cracks me up anyway (it's most obvious around seconds 18-19):

You can induce yourself. Naturally. Two good things about it: one, if the baby isn't ready, it won't induce and two, if baby is ready not only does it induce, but it cleans you out too (and that's better at home than at the hospital!)
Take a small bottle of castor oil. This amounts to a few really good gulps..and the stuff is wretched...I took it with rootbeer (as recommended by the nurse.) Voila' baby within 10 hours! ![]() Good wishes.

Thanks - I've heard the castor oil method. Sounds... um... violent! But yeah, I guess I'd be clean as a whistle afterwards, baby or no baby, huh?
Maybe I should give it a shot - don't know - well, maybe not in the middle of a beautiful day like today. Thanks ![]()

Not violent.
![]() Of course it's up to you whether you try it or not... depends upon how desperate you are. When I heard, "Baby's in position and ready to go!" that's all I needed...the night he was due, I took the castor oil and he was born the next afternoon. ![]()
