I hate this! I just got a call from someone I applied and interviewed with. But of course did not get the job. I was their second choice. I guess I should be happy about that, but it doesn't do anything to bring in any money. I'm getting fed up with this whole thing. I can't stand the stress anymore. It is getting to be too much.

You sure aren't alone, googley. I'm in the same boat, along with several million other Americans. Unless you're independently wealthy or living on disability, you HAVE to keep on trying. We all do. Yes, it's awful. Yes, it's degrading. Yes, where is the government now that we need them? Well, it appears there are a lot of comfortable people in this country who don't have any problems themselves and who believe that folks like you and me just don't try hard enough, work hard enough, don't take the tough and dirty jobs. So they say it's our fault. Imagine. They really say that. They really BELIEVE that. So they can support politicians who don't want to help people like you and me.

So not only do people like you and me have to keep looking for a job, we ALSO have to look out for the folks below us in the food chain, who sleep behind hedges, who get canned food at the food bank and have nothing to heat it with and have to eat it cold. If they have a can opener. And in most places they're not allowed to beg unless they want to go to jail. If we don't help them, no one will.

Be strong. Be tough. Figure out who are the real bad guys and the real good guys. Keep looking for a job. Ultimately, you'll find one. And when you do, don't forget the folks you left behind, the ones behind the hedge or living in their cars. No. Don't ever forget them.

Take care and God bless you.

When is it going to end? When I finally here back from places I've applied to, it's a month later. What good does that do? I've gone to networking workshops, and you'd be surprised on the stuff you learn.
Thanks for this!

(((Googley)))

The employment counsellor stated that there are 200 applications for some jobs. Does she think that makes me feel more competative or more depressed? This type of information is disheartening. Competativeness depresses me.

My intake employment counsellor stated that older women need to get their hair fixed up and wear an uplifting bra. She was a scraggy looking thing herself, lol. She is now on summer holiday. It is hard to be respectful . She also stated they have a lot of people in the industry who are just waiting (waiting is her word) to retire. Thank goodness. How could I tell?

These types of thieves in the employment counselling industry need to be replaced with people with a heart for what is happening out here.

When I went to a workshop for networking for jobs last month at my local Employment office, a Human Resources person came in to talk to our group. She said there's about 500 or so resumes they receive daily. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but if she is trying to make me feel better, she failed! I am too not a competitive person. I'm so tired of "those" people saying what "we're possibly not doing. Excuse me, but I didn't know that the interviewer judges you on your clothes, hair, jewelry, and everything else. Am I applying for a job with which I have the skills or is this a fashion interview. Damn! I cannot afford to go out and spend $50 on an interview outfit, and I can never find anything decent on the clearance racks. Half of it looks tacky, or something I just wouldn't wear that's hidious looking. I think I put myself together pretty good whenever I do have an interview. I work with what I have in my closet, and if they don't like it, too bad! This HR woman told us that women should pin your hair up and don't overdue it on cologne, which I never ever would do, keep your nails short, wear a nice pair of shoes, you all know where I'm going with this. I've had interviews in the past where they were so nonchalant about it, and lazy, so they should think about how they're treating the job seeker. Well, sorry just had to vent.

I know I should be grateful that I have job right now. However, I'm placed here by a staffing company and this is not a good fit for me. They have no other place to put me so here I stay. While looking for other jobs. I hate coming to work. I have panic attacks while here. I can hardly hold it together for 8 hours. I get home and I'm a mess. Can't eat, can't sleep, freak out when I have to go to bed. Have to force myself to go to work and stay there.

Sorry I needed to let that out. I wish you luck googley and all others searching for a job.
Thanks for this!
