I honestly have no idea if I'll be able to retire after this school year. I'll be eligible for partial Soc. Sec. plus my teacher's retirement. I'll have enough sick days accummulated to give me health insurance till Medicare kicks in at 63 (3 years), so I won't have to worry about how to pay for insurance.
In the past, up until last week, I had thought of retirement as kind of sad, but all of a sudden a lightbulb came on and I felt how free it would be! To be able to work on my art at my leisure, to plan trips in the off-season (if I can afford it!). I will not know if I will actually make enough from the sources mentioned to not be poor. That would be oppressive. Even more oppressive would be having to "sub" teach to make ends meet. I'd appreciate hearing from other retirees. I should add, I have no additional savings to supplement my retirement income.
