I'm 24, living with parents, unemployed for 3 years.
The sad truth has hit me that I need money, both to support my health and for happiness. I'm amorous for technology, but sad that I cannot participate in the new gadgets that seem to come out every day. I'm not concerned about the loneliness I face everyday, but do fear dying alone. My left eye is in pain for reasons completely unknown to me, and am unable to get help from the only people I have ever known---my parents. I'm angered that they can bring me into this world, and expect me to make it on my own. I'm fearful to get a job because I'm shy, introverted, have bad eyesight, and am phobic about cleaning public toilets. If I'm ever asked to clean a toilet on the spot, I'm quitting. I refuse to use them, let alone clean them. Another problem that plagues me, is that I'm terrible at reading maps & comprehending directions to various locales. I've only driven on the freeway by myself once, and that was with an adult. Some jobs require driving, but I'm simply too inexperienced to acquire them. If i could find a resource that would teach me, I would be forever grateful. I've tried browsing Google Maps, but it's not a very good way to learn. |

Check with your county office. Texas has a Force Connection that helps people look for jobs and they offer some free training. I don't know if Utah has a similar program or not, but it's worth checking out. There are a lot of jobs out that don't include cleaning toilets or driving(except to get to work). Keep looking and the more applications you put in the better chance you have at getting an interview.
I'm sorry you feel that way about your parents. Generally in most states you're on your own at 18 or 21. When parents have children they fully expect them to become a functioning member of society and at least try to help themselves. Good luck.

I can relate a lot. I'm 20 and I live with my parents as well. I have worked before but only "seasonal" jobs. Sometimes I go to this winery and help the chef prepare the meals for guests when there's big events. I like it a lot but it's not a daily, weekly or monthly thing. It's more of a whenever we need a lot of people in the kitchen thing. I've also tried to be a waitress at events like that but I'm way too shy as well. That's why I don't want to get a part time/full time job at a store or something. I applied to target once and they called and told me they'd be calling me again to do an over the phone interview. The day of the interview, I got so nervous and answered "I don't know" to most questions. They called me the next day and told me they didn't need me at the moment, they sill have a "hiring" sign on their doors, lol! I'm terrified of interviews now.
I'm gonna go to my first therapy next Thursday and I hope they can help me with my social skills! If you're not already, you should set up an appointment with a therapist and see how they can help you. Good luck! ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you go to Utah.gov there should be a section for employment resources. I have never lived in a state where their website didn't have job listings/resources that you could take advantage of. Good luck to both of you.
