This was my second day of working at a new job to get hours. It is a branch to the place I work now and why I work there is because where I'm working doesn't have as many hours for employees during the summer.
So I was trying to tell this co-worker I would be working with who is the only baker there that I have an 8 hour schedule that they gave me. He didn't seem to like me working there after him for some odd reason, he kept trying to get me to leave with him when that would only be about 6-6 1/2 hour shift. It didn't seem to go through to him. He kept saying the last person that worked here in your place just worked to get a few hours and had unemployment. So I had ask him who would I ask here about this to see if this is a problem and so I ended up asking the head manager of that building, not "general manager". The manager went and told him that they scheduled me those hours, so I will be working them. My issue is I don't want the co-worker to think I told on him when I wanted to see the managers perspective. I asked the manager if there was an issue and though I did tell him that the co-worker does seem bothered.

Maybe the co-worked has come 'territorial' issues (the workplace is full of them ...) and will need some time to adjust to you being there. Who knows if he will make anything of the conversation with the manager about your hours. There will be some tension for a few days as this guy adjusts but it might be best to let the whole thing drop. It really is the co-worker's issue, not yours.
Your issue is to do the job you are assigned and if you want extra credit, use this as a practice opportunity to work with a difficult person and not lose your serenity. (((PastryChef))) |
