Hello,

I've been bullied at work for well over a year by vice president of company (male). I've been having counselling. Previous Counsellor said that its attraction. She said that its the sort of attraction a father feels for his daughter or, depending on his age, a brother feels for his sister.

Any ideas what she means ? Hoping the answer may help my situation as it seems to be getting worse

Thanks

Thanks for your post. There isn't enough information provided in order to assess the situation.

I've been harassed on the job. Usually, it's a signal that they want you to leave. Teasing is a sign of attraction in teenage boys. They will tease girls to whom they are attracted. However, the VP seems to be too old for such behavior. It is friendly teasing or malicious teasing?
Thanks for this!

bulllying is bullying. The counselor doesn't understand. It doesn't matter WHY you are being harassed or abused; it needs to be addressed. You need a different counselor. The Verbally Abusive Relationship by Patricia Evans saved my life. Do you have a Human Resources Dept? There are Federal laws and guidelines for workplace harrassment. You can look that up online. It won't stop until someone in authority steps in.

If it makes you uncomfortable - it's bullying to you. You are in a tough situation.

I am a pretty friendly person but I am also very strong. If someone crosses the line.. I usually can diffuse the situation with humor while making a point. Maybe the counselor is trying to help you look at it in a different light - so you do not have to worry about losing your job or looking for a new one - that does not make it right!

Not sure if other employees are feeling the same way you are. If he is a valued employee...it gets tricky.

You may consider going to your HR dept... but beware, they are not always fair, although.. if others are feeling like you do... the company will not want to worry about being sued. You also may have to consider looking for a different job - or transfer - not sure if there are other positions within the company that do not require you to be around this vp.

Good luck... I hope they do right by you!!!!!!
